Loved this place. The theme was great. We stayed in the room with a tent. The bed was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. The grounds needs a bit of TLC, cleaning, paint, etc. The outdoor space was cool to hang out in. Breakfast could have been better. Not very healthy.

Thank you for the fantastic review of your recent stay here at Basecamp! I am so glad you had a wonderful time and enjoyed the outdoor space of the property. We are also adding a brewery on-site and will be doing a refresh of the grounds and buildings as we move forward with this addition. Thanks again for your kind words. I hope your travels bring you back this way soon!

We come to this location (South Lake) almost every year for the past seven years. When we first stayed at this hotel was new and small with only one location. Over the years the hotel has grown, both physically at this location, but also with two more locations. The growth of the hotel has caused it to lose its charm and come apart at the seams.

The small hints of charm (packaging of food, set up of their continental breakfast) are gone, replaced by afterthought amenities. In addition, the upkeep is lacking. For the last two years we have gotten a room with a bathroom that has a lingering smell (the toilet may need a new johnny ring and the fact that it has gone unchecked for two years is disappointing). During our latest stay we also noticed ants.

The grounds are not in the best shape anymore either. It's as if management has focused on growth and forgotten about what made the hotel great in the first place.

We will not stay at this location in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us about your recent stay at Basecamp. We always value feedback that can help us improve our operations. I am terribly sorry to hear that your stay did not meet your expectations. While it is always our goal to create raving fans of Basecamp by providing amazing guest service in a great location, we missed the mark with your stay.

I have shared your comments regarding breakfast with our F&B team for growth in that area. We are always in an evolution at Basecamp and currently we are adding a brewery on-site that will be a great addition to the property in the near future. The construction of the brewery area has added a slight bit of work being done on the property as well.

Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you would like to discuss your stay in greater detail.

Basecamp has a great location- close to locations where many of the Reno airport transfer buses drop you off. Additionally they were extremely helpful as my girlfriend and I had non hiking gear to drop off (which they held for us in back) while we hiked the PCT. Once we got back and checked in for our first night they got our stuff out of the locked back room. They were the only hotel to allow this- and we asked several. The ambiance is awesome and down to earth. I would absolutely recommend Basecamp for anyone looking to stay in Tahoe.

This hotel has some fun amenities -- lots of fire pits, bunk beds, a beer garden and games. However, the very things that make it fun also cause it to draw a young party crowd and the walls are thin. We had a loud group staying next door to us whom we could hear much of the night. I would say that this hotel was very convenient and interesting, but not quite worth the price -- infrastructure was a little worn and flimsy, and the service was slow for the price.

My husband and I came to Lake Tahoe for an anniversary trip and had an amazing time staying at Basecamp. All of the staff was very friendly and helpful. The standard king room was nice and so cute with all of its camp-like touches (fireplace, lanterns for lighting, wooden accents, and even a small drink cooler and single cup coffee maker). The Beer Garden restaurant offered nightly entertainment and we got a chance to participate in the trivia night with a bunch of fun people with whom we had a blast. The hotel is centrally located to pretty much everything you would want to see in South Lake Tahoe--the lake, beaches, hiking trails, casinos, shops, eateries, and local attractions. It was the perfect place to stay for a relaxing South Lake Tahoe vacation and we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. Although there was construction going on in the area, we were not disturbed at all on our side of the hotel (the area above the hotel lobby). One of the rooftop hot tubs was right near our room and looked lovely, although we never got a chance to hop in. The nearby fire pit and seating made it a nice spot to watch the sunset, however. I am not sure how well the hotel fares in the warmer months, but we found that between the portable A/C unit, the ceiling fan, floor fan, and the fireplace, we were able to keep the temperature in the room just the way we wanted it on the fair October days that we stayed there. If we are ever in the South Lake Tahoe area again, we will definitely not hesitate to stay at Basecamp South Lake Tahoe again.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper or like to turn in early, ask for a room on the lobby side of the hotel (away from the Beer Garden).
