I have dined here through the restaurant's various incarnations and cannot stand the pretensions of the place. This is the kind of establishment that will put a sprig of lemongrass on a piece of cod just to give it a fancy name and add a tenner to the price. Average food at wildly overblown prices, terrible service and always ask for a receipt - I was charged 9.45 for two diet cokes! Avoid like the plague and head into Dolgellau instead.

Called in whilst out and about in Snowdonia....a lovely find, good coffee and snacks, if had more time would have stayed for a meal. Very helpful staff and well organised....lovely outside verandah, set in lovely scenery.

As we had visited this area before and had been to the Cross Foxes in the past for meals. We decided this time to book a stay with them. We arrived a little early 2.30pm but still showed are room Cau which was ready. We had all our evening meals at the Foxes, you can access their website for the menus and prices. We were not disappointed with the food. Staff were very friendly and quick to serve, as we were residents we did not book evening meals apart from the Sunday as the Foxes was busy. Cau and Arron rooms face the front of the Foxes and are about the same. The room was clean, and nice and warm with a on suite bathroom which had a shower cubicle. The cubicle was a good size, it had a rain shower and a separate side shower. The main room had a small wardrobe which was just about enough room for a small stay. The window facing the front of the Foxes does open to let air in and also is double glazed . There is quite a lot of passing traffic outside, as the Foxes is on a junction. So you can here it, but with the window shut and the double glazing closed its hardly noticeable. So if your sensitive maybe the rooms on the other side would be better, it wasn’t a problem for us though.
The Cross Foxes is in an ideal location to travel around, Dolgellau is only 5 minutes away and Barmouth 20. For those wanting to visit the Mach Loop the car park at Cad West is also just 5 minuets down the road. The Foxes has a lovely outside dining area where you can have drinks and enjoy the sunshine and watch the jets fly by. I always ask my self would I stay here again, and the answer is definitely yes, we had a good time here it was nice to sit down in the lounge in the evening on comfy chairs, have a few drinks and not have to worry about driving .

We stopped here for breakfast after an early start from home for Barmouth. We had the full English served out on the terrace. The food was plentiful, hot and tasty. The service was excellent. All in all an excellent early morning stop, we will definitely stop here again.

Good quality freshly cooked food, and well presented, which explains why it's a bit more expensive than standard. Lamb chops looked large, succulent and thick with lamb. The chicken burrito was not too spicy, a few beans a reasonable amount of well cooked rice and chicken, guacamole, salsa and salad. Chorizo linguine carbonara looked good not a creamy sauce but made properly with egg and came with focaccia. The carrot and courgette burger was standard veggie burger fayre. We could only stop for an hour as we had to check in before 9pm in Caernarfon so I asked one of the waiting staff when we arrived if they thought they could serve us 8 mains with no starters and get us the bill so that we could leave in an hour. The waitress asked the chef who fancied our chances so we sat down, ordered our drinks and food and all the mains were served within 20mins. We left well within the hour so all as promised and tipped accordingly.

Pictured are chicken burrito, lamb and potato pie, chorizo linguine carbonara and carrot and courgette burger.
