We stayed a few nights in this wonderful hotel located about 20 minutes away from Labuan Bajo. The villas, all facing the sea, are very comfortable and offer all amenities and comfort. The beach is nice and sunsets are exquisite almost every evening. The restaurant by the beach offers great dishes and we enjoyed every dinner that we had. Finally, the Spa is great and we took a couple of massages that were just marvelous. All in all, a great experience !

We had an amazing stay at Plataran Komodo in August 2018. The place is very quiet and welcoming, the staff is superkind and committed and in the close Lavuan Bajo you can breath adventure, as if you were a character of Marco Polo's tales. The sea-view room was extremely nice and all the staff members have done their best to let us feel like being at home. The hotel is expensive but definitely worth a stay.

Rating: Average considering cost

On arrival we were wowed by the amazing villa with a huge, nicely decorated living / bedroom and even more huge and impressive bathroom.

From then on, however, we realised that the location made it a hassle to get to external restaurants and bars, which (for us) was a necessity considering how expensive the resort restaurant was. Our first night we had dinner in the hotel restaurant and cost us IDR 900 (c.£50)!

The hotel staff were very friendly but could not really provide us with good suggestions on activities and transport around the island.

A good place for the super rich or a traveller not wanting to relax in a nice resort. Not so good for the adventurous traveller.

Dear PraChaBaj,

Thank you for taking the time to review us.

We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the comfort of our facilities as well as the attentiveness of the team members.

With regards to the pricing of our meals and drinks, your feedback has been noted. Getting materials and goods in Labuan Bajo is not easy and thus prices are generally higher across the board. We offer good quality and value for money in line with the standards of any 5* property.

We hope you will have opportunity to return in the not too distant future and look forward to welcoming you back.

Igor,

We fell in love with this place. We stayed at a villa with private pool which was simply great. The restaurant offers spectacular views. Sunset was breathtaking. People are very friendly and helpful. You can even snorkle on the hotel’s beach. We had really great time. Thank you Plataran Komodo!

We chose to stay in this resort based on past wonderful experiences in other Plataran properties (Borobodur and Jakarta) as well as the glowing tripadvisor reviews. Although the facilities, villa, and food were fantastic, we were disappointed by the whole experience.

Service was really spotty that we often had to go to the bar to get food orders at the Xanada restaurant. At one point, it took over 30 min and multiple requests to get a cup of coffee and a server even returning to our table to say that she forgot what we ordered.

On arrival - we were checked in and then told the room wasn't ready for another 30 min or more even. I spoke to a staff before our arrival to confirm that the room will be ready for the 2 pm check-in since we were traveling with a baby and a senior who would be tired by checkin. When i insisted that this was inconvenient as our baby needed to nap, we were given the keys in 5 min. What changed? The woman at the front desk pointed the villa to us and off we went. Usually, a FOH staff will introduce you to a staff that will bring you to the villa. Not exactly the most hospitable welcome.

The next morning, we saw new arrivals at the resort who received a full on explanation of the resort, its facilities and activities while we were eating at the restaurant (which doubles as reception area). What a different welcoming experience! We were only able to find out that free water sport activities such as snorkelling gears were available from overhearing the other group's welcome.

After we settled in our rooms (we booked a 2 bedroom villa), I walked back to the reception and asked the same FOH womanif we could have an extra cushion for the outdoor seats in the villa (my mother in law who is almost 80 has back problems). She said she will call housekeeping to get it. Never heard back from her or housekeeping and we never got the requested cushions or a follow-up. I made other requests from the same FOH woman throughout our stay (3 days) that were either not followed up so we were left waiting for items we requested that never arrived or would need multiple requests (like a baby chair for the dining area, a missing beach bag in one of the rooms, etc.).

The service that was really frustrating was from the Xanadu restaurant- breakfast was really slow, we had to request orders multiple times (at one point it took 30 min to get a cup of coffee), and one server returned to our table to say that she forgot what we ordered (from the preset limited breakfast menu they have everyday!). I understand that some were trainees, but they should have either been shadowing, or being mentored by, staff. We asked one of the staff for a breakfast order, she nodded before literally hiding by the bar (we could see her peeking at our table from behind the wall) while she sent another staff to take our order.

We put in a lunch box order the night before we went on a snorkeling trip. They repeated our order to confirm but the next day, while on a boat, we found it was the wrong order (cold burgers instead of the BLT sandwiches we ordered and the staff repeated to us). When i mentioned the mistake to the same staff I ordered from, he said it was what we ordered. Which is frustrating and I really didn't want to spend the holiday time arguing about it.

It wasn't all bad but all together, the clumsy and inefficeint service soured our experience.

Some positives about staff

- housekeeping and cleaning staff were efficient, hard working and friendly

- other than the lunchbox mix up, service at Atlantis on the Rock was professional, friendly and fast (much better than the service from Xanadu, the main resort restaurant) where most of our meals, including breakfast, was served
- Julius and another staff with the same role were friendly, communicative and took the time to explain to us the limited construction that was going on (how long it will take and why it was happening). I wish the FOH woman and Xanadu staff had a similar demeanor as it would have changed our overall experience.

For a resort in this price range, service is what makes it stand out from other similar priced resorts but sadly this one was lacking.

I really like the Plataran brand, but will probably not come back to this location.

Dear Sarah M,

Thank you for your extensive review and the insightful tips on some of things that need adjusting, I very much appreciate you taking the time to share and we will make every effort to bring these changes about.

The level of service and consistency is definitely our focus in terms of training and something that we are taking seriously. Should you make it back to Plataran Komodo in the future, I hope that you will be able to see the improvement.

I am happy to hear that Yulius and the rest of the team took such good care of you, and that you enjoyed Atlantis on The Rock.

Sarah M, we do hope that we will have an opportunity to welcoming you back in the future.

With warm regards,

Igor
