“The Old Forge is fantastic.”
Reviewed 16 March 2014 for a stay in March 2014

We stayed at The Old Forge for a much needed 3 night break. My dad died in January and we have been caring for my elderly mum so while she stayed with my sister we were able to get away. We wanted clean, comfortable accommodation with a well equipped kitchen, some outside space and an attractive setting. The Old Forge was perfect in every respect. It is tastefully and beautifully furnished and the private patio overlooks fields with sheep grazing. After being out and about all day exploring the lovely surrounding countryside we were able to return in the late afternoons and completely relax, cooking and enjoying a few glasses of wine whilst listening to music. We found a good farm shop nearby selling a range of local produce, but if you didn`t want to cook there is a pub next door to the property which gets good comments in the visitors book. If we wanted to visit Shropshire again we`d certainly try and book the Old Forge again, and from reading the visitors book that`s exactly what a lot of people do. They also have a small B & B and before we left we were shown around by the owner`s daughter. That too looks clean and comfortable and is decorated in the same attractive style. Highly recommended!

“A Perfect Place to Stay”
Reviewed 20 December 2013 for a stay in November 2013

I stayed here for four nights in early November along with my husband, son and daughter in law. I cannot praise it highly enough. Our booking was handled quickly and efficiently by Colin and Wendy who gave us full information on the property and it's location. Colin also booked a meal for us in the pub next door for our first evening. He welcomed us on arrival and showed us where everything was. The 'Barn' was extremely comfortable, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Colin told us that Wendy was responsible for the decor which was tasteful and perfectly suited to the building. The sleeping arrangements were spot on for two couples, with one bedroom and bathroom downstairs and another bedroom and bathroom upstairs, ensuring complete privacy. I reckon it would also work well for a family, giving Mum and Dad a welcome space of their own. The beds, bed linen, towels, etc. were all excellent quality - far better than a lot of four star hotels we've stayed in!
The kitchen was well equipped with lots of utensils and enough pots, pans, dishes, etc. to allow us to cook 'proper' meals, e.g. Roast beef, Yorkshire puds and all the trimmings one evening! By the way, the beef came from a butcher in Ludlow and was melt in the mouth. We also tried a shoulder of lamb from a butcher in Shrewsbury which was equallly good.
The living area came supplied with two extremely comfortable Italian Leather sofas - very welcome after a day spent exploring the beautiful nearby attractions. not to mention the consumption of a large meal and a glass or two of wine! Each evening after supper my son fed the wood burning stove (Colin had shown us where to find the wood) and we sat and chatted, luxuriating in warmth and comfort, whilst planning our next day's outing.
All in all, a wonderful break. Thank you Colin and Wendy for your hospitality. By the way the welcome hamper was great too! We all loved our stay and would return without hesitation.
