We had been led to believe that we would not find much of interest in El Fuerte but this hotel proved that idea to be wrong. Beautiful old colonial style, much prettier than we expected and so close to everything in the center of town. The restaurant is the best in town. There is easy booking at the front desk for several enjoyable and informative tours in the area. The pool was also great to enjoy on hot afternoons and poolside dining was available as well. Staff was helpful with information and advice.
Transportation from the train station is free to go to the hotel, but is only free to return to the train if you buy a meal at the hotel. We would have eaten there anyway but it's strange not to offer free round trip transportation when you are already paying for a room. Overall a great experience and the Zorro show was cute.

This is a quaint hotel situated at the city center. You could simply walk around within a two mile radius and you would have already seen El Fuerte. The hotel staff is efficient but the rooms need updating. Our room was not the most comfortable hotel room I’ve ever stayed at. And be warned, there are mosquitoes everywhere.

Hotel Posada is a nice hotel which is a close walk to the town of El Fuerte. The rooms are big bit need some maintenance. WiFi is good even in the rooms. We had breakfast at the hotel which was good enough compared to what other hotels offer. This is a good location as it is only about 15 minutes from the El Chepe train station.

Stayed one night. Charming hotel but not functional. Soundproofing completely lacking. Room was facing the street and it was very noisy: loud music, noise from a community basketball court on the other side of the street (they start playing at 06:00 in the morning), loud conversations from the hotel inner courtyard. Don't plan to sleep past 06:00.
There were some insects on the inside of the windows.
A/C worked well.
Reasonably comfortable bed. Pillows were too soft. No desk.
Shower with a half door, keeping you cold while you shower.
Breakfast with limited selection.
Very poor wifi reception in the room, with pages loading extremely slowly or not at all.
In the end, I would take quiet and functional over charming any day. Stay elsewhere if you want to be comfortable and sleep well.

We had requested a single king bed at the time of booking. When shown to our room we found two queen’s we ask our bell boy if a single was available, he quickly got on his radio and we were upgraded to a gorgeous room (see pic)
The service in the dining room was great as was the food. This is a wonderful old residence.
