We stayed at la Ferme for 2 nights (en route to a walking holiday).
The conversion of the building has been meticulous and we found everything very comfortable. The location was lovely, and very peaceful. Maria was most helpful in recommending an excellent restaurant for dinner.
We had a big wish to see Sarlat again - we had been before on a Saturday market day and loved it, but wished to explore further - it's not that nearby, but en route we explored Les jardins d’Eyrignac with their amazing topiary.
This gite has everything one could dream of - top notch amenities, access to an amazing garden and a wonderful pool, a great area to explore and wonderful hosts (Maria and Paul, a Venezuelan-British couple). They thought of every possible detail both inside and outside.
If you like the Dordogne then this is the place to go - there are lots of amazing villages and natural sites nearby and it's nice even in the off-season.
I stayed in the new rooms of "La Ferme" and absolutely loved them! They are wonderfully luxurious while still capturing the down to earth atmosphere of the region. Everything is clean and in perfect condition. The kitchen was also great, with a big window giving an amazing view of the surrounding landscape. The new Gite "La Ferme" is perfectly placed to explore the surrounding area, which is known for its numerous castles and caves, as well as its beautiful landscape. All in all, if you are looking to spend some quiet days in the French countryside, I highly suggest the Gite "La Ferme" or the neighbouring Gite Le Maine d'Autana.
We stayed at Gite Le Maine d'Autanna for a week in August this year with our two boys 7 & 5. Our friends stayed in the other Gite - Le Ferme.
The Gite has everything you need, beds are comfy, and the linen is gorgeous! It has two toilets (great when you have kids). There is a bath with a shower over in one bathroom and a shower in the other. There is a dishwasher and a washing machine, great!! It was spotless when we arrived, fresh and clean.
The gite is set in a beautiful area, secluded, peaceful and relaxing and we were surrounded by corn fields when we were there, beautiful. The boys had a brilliant time exploring around the gites grounds and there was loads of room to set up football goals, badminton nets and swing ball.
The swimming pool was a great hit with the kids and was the perfect way to cool down on a hot afternoon.
There is loads to do in the surrounding area, with gorgeous French villages nearby to visit for markets and shopping. We went canoeing in Brantome, which Paul organised for us, which was brilliant and also on the Velo rail in Corgnac, again brilliant fun. The chateau at Haute Forte was beautiful, with plenty of grounds for the boys to run around in and picnic in the cool trees.
Paul and Maria (the owners who live there) and their family were really welcoming, the boys loved their son (14), the dogs and the cat, Gerrard. We were lucky enough to be treated to their beautiful daughter singing opera, what a way to finish the holiday.
We would highly recommend a trip to this area and definitely to this Gite, all very lovely.
We've just returned from a fortnight in the beautiful and spacious La Ferme gite. It is furnished and equipped to a very high standard and was spotlessly clean. Maria and family are generous and entertaining hosts who genuinely welcomed us into their home and really went out of the their way to make our stay special despite the disappointing weather. Attractive and extensive gardens with private patio area and nice clean pool. Quiet location near to plenty of lovely towns and villages (Brantome, Perigueux, Excideuil) but you will need a car to get around. Nearest baker / shop about 1.5 miles but a fine walk on a sunny morning. Nearest decent supermarket (Excideuil) about 10 miles away. Would wholeheartedly recommend.
