An overnight stop in Frikes for our yacht's crew of five and we were so pleased to stumble across Ageri. Recognisably Greek cuisine but with additional touches and tastes we'd never experienced before. The very friendly owner, whose English was superb, really seemed to enjoy taking us through his menu and his wine list. The establishment prides itself on sourcing local/regional and organic produce. It was very near end of season, so we were offered a generous discount on wine - which was in any case very reasonably priced.
We all enjoyed a simply brilliant dinner. Who'd have thought (well we didn't, until we sampled it) that a beetroot salad starter could be so exquisitely tasty? Anyway, it was. Another starter of sautéed mushrooms in wine could easily have come out of a Michelin starred kitchen. I had a beautifully cooked seafood linguini, and every one of my shipmates loved their meat- and fish-based main courses.
Delightful setting directly on the quayside enhanced the overall experience. We concluded at the end of our very own 'Ionian Mission' that this was by a distance the best meal we'd had - praise indeed because we also had very good dinners on four other islands.
I'd make a beeline for this place if I ever find myself in Frikes again.
Almost certainly because it was at the back end of the season, we had no difficulty booking a table at short notice here. I'd guess that in high season it might be prudent to call or email ahead to make a booking. A restaurant of this quality must surely be in high demand in high season.
Absolutely fantastic experience here, and all the best to the owner and team for the future!
Final point I'd make is that given the quality of the dining here, it's also excellent value for money.
