The location is just perfect. The hotel has a most beautiful garden. View from the frontbeach villas and the restaurant is just breathtaking.

Rooms are spacious and beautiful, furniture was once luxurious, but not is a bit dated.
Beachfront villas have patios and terraces. If you take the one with kitchenette, you can have your own private breakfast at the terrace on the sun, just amazing.
There are lots of iguanas in the garden in front of the villas, and we spotted a cat as well.

Restaurant is located beautifully on the cliff with open panoramic views, but we had only one meal there, and were not very impressed.
Bar is good. Enjoyed cocktails every evening. Bartenders are friendly and professional.

Beach is not very big, but we loved it! There is also a dive center that offers interesting trips and dives.
Unfortunately, corals are mostly dead in the hotel's house reef, but it looks like that they are growing again, and there is lots, lots of fish!

Highly recommended for a romantic getaway!

We stayed in Kura Hulanda a few nights in March 16. To sum, the hotel's strength is definitely the wonderful location. Based in the middle of nature, including wildlife and a beautiful beach with snorkelling & diving opportunities, we could totally relax and enjoy the nice sun. There is not much around in Westpunt, we strongly recommend to organize a lending car to go shopping (water / food) or explore beaches nearby.

The hotel itself is nice, but overall needs to be refurbished to prove the luxurious accomodation they claim they offer. We had a superior garden view room, which was nice, especially the big balcony. We would totally recommend to chose this. vs regular garden view room, it gives you more privacy.

Breakfast was very basic (do not try the pancackes though, horrible), but it does not meet the expectation you have chosing a luxury resort in terms of offer & quality. Overall eating at Kura Hulanda is very expensive, but this is in line with the price level of Curacao.

The experienced different service levels of the hotel staff. Room cleaning does not care about animal "dirt" on the balcony, this was disappointing. Also we were checked in into the wrong room and had to change rooms in the evening (pack & unpack again) - as the hotel's ownew claimed the room, without any offer to help us with the luggage. We recieved a bottle of wine as a sorry for the inconvenience the next day, which was a really nice gesture, but still it did not make up for the first impression we had.

The Kura Hulanda Beach Club has its best times behind and is no longer the luxury hotel they call themselves, which is really a pity. However, we still would fully recommend if you aim for relaxing holidays within beautiful nature. If party opportunities are not important, lend a car and stay in Kura Hulanda. There is a huge supermarket in Willemstad & a kitchen in the rooms of the Kura Hulanda, so you can save money and enjoy your own meal at the balcony :) Curacao is small, you can visit everything by car within one hour max.

Enjoy your holidays!
Helene

I had a wonderful time at this hotel, the staff are very friendly and made me feel very comfortable during my stay. They went the extra mile by even walking me to the bus station when I missed the hotel shuttle. Room is very comfortable and excellent security features such as cameras all over the property as well as key card access to rooms. I will be returning with my family next time around

Room tip: Room 105 is near to the exit closest to town

Once upon a time, this might have been a luxury resort but … no more. This property has seen better days and the current management/ownership appears to be uninterested in making the investment required to bring this resort to anywhere near its potential. Their marketing material is written to encourage the reader to believe that this is a luxury resort but it is just marketing bumph and the pricing is certainly high enough but the experience is far from lux. We visited the Kura Hulanda for a week on the basis of a friend’s very positive recommendation and the recommendation on the Fodor website despite the poor Trip Advisor reviews - bad idea!

Location

- the location is lovely - facing the western ocean

Ocean View One Bedroom

- A/C was good
- Could have used a good cleaning - floors in bathroom not cleaned around in the corners, behind the toilet, under the sink; under the bed (leaves you feeling kind of yucky); upholstery on sofa and chairs spotted; glass table tops smeared; balcony had many leaves; walking around left our feet black with dirt; tub was not cleaned after we used it to clean our feet (sounds gross, I know).
- General repair not good - door in mini kitchen broken; door pulls broken, paint chipped, trim damaged.
- Everything in the room was pre-2000 - TV was an ancient CRT (no flat screen here) and had problems receiving channels; mirror backing was corroded; pillows on bed were flat and uncomfortable; sheets were not as advertised; garbage cans were rusted and broken; the shower head would not stay fixed.
- There was no WIFI in the rooms which meant that planning for the next day or communicating with home was very inconvenient.

Service

- we asked for a kettle to make tea and it was delivered quickly.
- Cleaning was lackadaisical - the glass tables weren’t cleaned in the week we stayed.
- There was no beverage service around the pool. If you went to the bar and asked for something you would get it in 20 minutes but you carried it yourself and had to return if you wanted another.
- Information provided in the room or in the lobby was almost non-existent which was a problem as there was no WIFI in the room.
- Staff was generally uninterested in the guest’s comfort or experience of the property.

Restaurant

- Had good sandwiches but had the same problem with service as noted above.

The Grounds

- The grounds have been neglected in a similar way to the rooms and common areas.
- The plantings are too sparse and some plants are in poor condition.
- There is irrigation but no mulch to conserve moisture.
- There are lots of beautiful birds.

What to do?

- Invest in staff training to improve service and attitude toward guests. This would likely result in better revenues and reviews on social media.
- Invest in refurbishing the rooms, including paint, repair, indoor and outdoor furniture, linens, and kitchen.
- Put WIFI in the rooms.
- Partner with local tour operators to provide guests with information and have a staff person to facilitate activities.
- Put information about the hotel (property plan, hours of operation, local beach information, etc.), activities in the area, where to buy groceries, where to find a pharmacy, local restaurants, transportation information, and the like.

The Kura Hulanda resort was bankrupt in 2013 and staff and creditors were not paid according to news reports. Given the lack of management response to Trip Advisor reviews and the lack of investment in the property, it will likely be in the same position again soon. It is unfortunate but not surprising given our recent experience.

There are better places to stay in the area. Pick one of those.

Room tip: Pick a different resort
