“Amazing!”

A dream villa in a dream location- did not want to come home!
Where do we start? Let's start with the location: quiet, picturesque and idyllic. The villa is set in the hills and the views are a real delight - especially the sunset which was a real treat to watch every night (with the crickets providing the surround sound) before heading out for a meal.
The villa is a very short drive from Kokkino Chorio village square where there is a lovely traditional tavern. Whilst Kokkino Chorio is in walking distance, I would still say that a car was essential when staying here especially if you are carting shopping back up the hill from the local mini market (which incidentally is well stocked for such a small shop off the beaten track up in the hills!)
Further down the hill is Plaka village square where there are a couple of traditional tavernas and bars. We couldn't fault any of the food. Every meal we had during our stay (and we ate at them all - numerous times) was fantastic. The whole place is extremely child friendly and all restaurant staff spoiled our kids rotten with free ice creams, puddings and drinks!
The villa itself more than meets all your needs. The owners have provided everything you need, including mosquito nets over all the beds. These are something I am going to look out for in the future when booking a holiday because I usually get eaten alive by mosquitoes on holiday, but I didn't get one bite. I think the air con, plug in repellents (provided by the owners) and the mosquito nets were just too much for the little blighters!
Everything was of good quality- solid wood wardrobes, tables and chairs etc.
There was plenty of choice in terms of where you wanted to sit. I have been to places where you have to move the tables and chairs from one patio to another or move your sun lounger around to the other side of the pool as the day progresses and the sun moves across the sky. You won't have to do that here. There are sun loungers set up on all 4 sides of the pool, so if you fancy a move, you just have to move yourself. There are tables and chairs outside the front of the house, to the side of the house, at the edge of the pool, on the balconies and in the garden - you can take your pick - play cards here, play scrabble there, eat breakfast here and sit and read your book over there!
The pool was great - a really decent size for a family and our children (aged 5 and 6) spent most of their time in it, needless to say that their swimming and confidence greatly improved during our stay.
A lovely couple (Dennis and Sue), who look after the villa, visited twice during our stay. They cleaned, changed bedding/towels and cleaned the pool. They were also able to give us lots of helpful local information.
10 minutes away (in the car) is Almyrida. The beach here is fantastic for children. At one end it is rocky and great for snorkelling with kids and at the other end it is sandy. The sea at the sandy end is shallow for about 50 meters from shore. This means that the water is really warm and the kids can play safely in it (and did...for hours).
There are restaurants all along the beach front. Almyrida isn't busy, like some resorts, but it is close enough to the villa to have the best of both worlds from your holiday. One minute you can be chatting to people over lunch by the beach in Almyrida and then within 10 minutes you can have retreated back up the mountain and then not see a sole until you choose to venture out again that evening or the next day.
The owners of the Villa were most helpful before we went and contacted us on our arrival back in the UK to check we had enjoyed our stay. Clear instructions and directions on how to find the villa were given to us and, as remote as it is, we didn't have any trouble finding it.
We would like to say a huge thank you to the owners (Nick and Jo) for providing us with such an amazing holiday in such an amazing villa in such an amazing location. Oh, and those sunsets, they were amazing too!

“In one word, perfect!”
Reviewed 20 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We are Belgians and it was our first time in Crete. We stayed there for 2 weeks with 2 teenagers. Fantastic villa. Incredible view. Very comfortable. Lots of privacy. Beautiful garden. Large comfortable kitchen. Very familiar (board games to use like chess, scrabble, etc. ..). Friendly neighbours (including the goats). TV was handy because of World Cup ;-). You'll feel right at home. Perfectly located in a quiet, beautiful area but also close to the beach and many cozy taverns. Excellent food by the way. Almyrida is a cozy beach village, not too crowdy. The linen was replaced after a week. We also did the Samaria Gorge (starts with a bus in Almyrida). The only very, very minor point is that there is no wifi. But you can go to a the bar Totem to use free wifi and read your mails or newspaper (or even better, don't use the internet for 2 weeks, you 're on holiday) In short, perfect. Everything you need for a nice holyday.

Management Response

Thank you for your lovely comments we are pleased you had such a good holiday at our villa. Regarding the internet /wifi you can buy a dongle at Kalyives phone shop to plug into your laptop providing fast internet at the villa, but as you mentioned all local cafes and tavernas have free wi fi. Kind regards Nick and Jo Hodgson

“Perfect villa and location”
Reviewed 26 August 2013 for a stay in August 2013

As we come to the end of our two week stay here, we can only give praise for the villa, the owner, the view and location. The villa is extremely comfortable, has everything one needs, a great pool (there is a house nearby but the pool and terrace around is practically private). The location is wonderful - views, quietness yet only 10mins and you are in the sleepy village with a taverna (excellent and friendly), a small shop which is well stocked. A further 5 mins is the most wonderful small cove which is deserted before 11am and then only a handful of locals arrive for a few hours. Nearby villages offer more tavernas and shops. The roads inland are good and travelling to historic sites is easy and accessible. The owner has clearly worked hard to enhance the large garden - which must be hard in the climate - and it now boasts lovely plants and pots fed on a water system. I would highly recommend the villa to all age groups - whether wanting a lazy beach holiday to a full on site seeing holiday.

“Sheer paradise”

We had the most amazing holiday in a stunning Cretan villa standing proud on the hillside with views to die for, all the amenities one could wish for and the most divine and extremely cheap food one could ask for. Villa Kannoni really is sheer paradise and provides all the comforts we look for in a family holiday being just far enough out of the main town for some peace and quiet, yet only a short distance to travel to the main resort which offers shops, restaurants, bars and a beautiful beach. Would highly recommend this Villa.
