We were made to feel very welcome by the owners. We knew the property was quite old when we booked - it was lovely. Only had one problem - the front door internal bolt, very difficult to lock. Otherwise a lovely stay with everything we expected. Very restful.
Smuggler's Rest and Moonrakers worked really well for us on our trip to Kent. We decided to rent the whole property quite late on but Ian was very accommodating. He and his wife were friendly and helpful, so thanks to them. We had a party of eight with two young children and having Moonrakers for extra space was a real boon. The accommodation is fairly dated and could use some tlc but it is very reasonably priced and worked fine for us. The garden was great for the kids to let off energy in and superb for barbecues - lots of lovely bird song. Although a trek to get supplies, the cottage is well placed for exploring Kent. The road it is on is quite busy and it's not possible to walk with ease so you must use a car to get to places. However, the accommodation is set back so the road does not impact on your stay significantly.
Fantastic stay, wonderful reception from Ian, lovely welcome bottle of wine..crisps..biscuits & milk! Cottage spotless with huge surroundings, very home from home, would highly recommend to everyone.
Smugglers rest is a very nice accomodation. There is a big garden which was nice for the children. The reception was very welcoming and relaxed.

Stayed for a week around my daughters wedding. Ian and his wife were friendly and helpful especially with service for taxis and hairdressers! The cottage is very comfortable and has all you could need. We weren't in the cottage much during the day but it is well placed for getting to the north and south of Kent. Just to note - it is a converted barn (which is part of its charm) but has some low beams which my 6 ft son had to be careful of. Also there is a step down from the living area to the toilets and shower area and another to the kitchen area which my elderly mother also had to watch for. The turning on to the road is also not for the faint hearted. However these points may sound negative they all add to the charm of he place and I am glad we chose to stay there.
