After touring bustling Singapore, the following day I pushed off on a “bumboat” for a 20 minute crossing to Pulau Ubin, an experience of stepping back in time to what Singapore once looked like. On this eco-island I was greeted by herons, kingfishers, straw-headed bulbuls, mudskippers and even wild boar. I climbed to the peak of Puaka Hill and, as eagles floated in the sky above the island jungle, I could see the juxtaposition of Singapore’s skyscrapers across the watery straits. Amazing!
