Best rice and beans, chorizo and yucca fries around. Carlos is a great bartender and the local crowd were super helpful. Gotta make a stop if you're in the area. There was also some bomb ceviche from the back of a van right over the road. Delicious. As for service in these spots taking a minute, chill out you're in Caribbean.

So we went to Maxis in the middle of the day when it was not very busy.. the service was adequate yet friendly... the food was however.. not good and WAY overpriced. I ordered a half size plate of Shrimp caribbean style.. for $15 it can with 5 medium to small sized shrimp, 2 patacones, small portion of rice and beans which had NO taste (the rice was over cooked with too much water so it was fluffy and very soft) and a few bites of sweet fried plantains. My husband ordered the rice with shrimp and he had 15-20 good sized shrimp in his plate (which was less expensive than mine) but it had no taste. Same over cooked rice.

I'say save your money and go somewhere else.. There are plenty of restaurants to choose from! we were so disappointed as i ate here 7+ years ago and remember the food was fabulous!

Local famous, expensive and take too long to serve, here you will find a very good options of sea and local food, it's a little pricey though with good quality, but you have to take on count that you have to wait long time to get serve! Sometimes 1 hour or more, around Maxxis you will find very good small joints with excellent quality and more affordable prices!

Good luck

This place has been famous for it's flavorful food for many many years. It became so popular that they opened one in San José. The food is phenomenal. The stuffed plantain appetizer is exquisite, the fish is succulent, the place is a must visit for caribbean food. Sometimes it can take a little longer than usual to get your meals, but I can assure you, it is worth the wait.

Maxis is an appropriate name- over 8 dollars for a mohito! Given the prices and unbearably loud bad music , we did not stay for dinner.
