Tricia and Kev were wonderful hosts. Tricia had to wait up late as I arrived on an evening flight and still had to pick up my rental and drive from the airport (PS, as Tricia says, you NEED a car when you are staying here).
The room was perfect - a lot more space than I expected, the bed was comfy and the kitchen had all I needed.
The local grocery store was just down the road (1.5K) and very convenient.
The location was perfect for me - as my parents were staying in the area (on the peninsular). It is an area of Mauritius I had not stayed in before so I really enjoyed it for that reason. Le Morne Brabant is a spectacular sight - and the best views are a short drive away. it is also very convenient if you like to hike and are going to the Riviere Noire area.
The only negative - if you like to shower in the morning you will not get hot water - it will be at best cool. The water is solar heated and by late in the evening it has been used up. As the temperatures in Mauritius are quite high it is not too much of an issue but I would prefer a little warmer shower.
I rented this through AirBnB and would have written a review there if they allowed more time. they only give you 14 days to review (?!?!) and I am not going to spend time reviewing until I am done with my whole vacation.

It's hard to know how to review this place. There's not much between this price point and the mega-priced hotels, so if you want an apartment for under $100 per night, this is probably a pretty good option, if the problem mentioned below could be solved. It's a good space, in a nice location, with nice polished concrete floors, plenty of space, and a comfortable bed. Possibly the upper units have nice views (we were in a garden unit so could only see the garden and neighbouring houses).
The main problem is that there are no insect screens so if you want fresh air in the evenings, you have to contend with an infestation of mosquitos, moths, and other insects. Mauritius is a hot country and the air conditioning unit is way too small to be of any use if you choose to shut the doors to keep the insects out. There are also no fans. We alternated between sleeping with the doors open and being eaten alive, and sleeping with them closed and suffocating in the heat (even with generous coatings of repellent, we got bitten). On our last night, the manager Victor (who is very friendly and eager to help) installed a mosquito net but it barely covered the top end of the bed. Even with the net, if you don't want to be bitten, you still have to shut yourself in and endure the heat.
In some respects, the apartment is not quite as nice as it looks in the photos. The woodwork is (mostly) not wood but a veneer particle board that is not wearing well in the moist environment. The kitchen has little bench space and is sparsely equipped - the pans are scratched teflon, which is not great for your health. The shower only has one temperature (fairly hot), which can't be adjusted. We initially had no internet but by mid-week that was fixed and a day later the speed was ramped up, so you should have access to good internet. We also had no beach towels for the first 3 days due to inconsistent messages on the advertisements (which says they will be provided) and the contract (which says they will not, and forbids you to use the bathroom towels at the beach). Make sure you ask for some because they are available, as we eventually discovered.
The owner has recently moved to Mauritius full-time and is living in one of the units. She seems to be very keen to fix up any problems so hopefully many of these issues will be resolved, but make sure you know whether there are any insect screens yet!
