We were surprised by our daughter with this vacation {a groupon purchase.} We had no idea what we were walking into. We have traveled to Cabo and Todo Santos on many vacations and have always had wonderful experiences. This was anything but! The cottages are in disrepair, the snack bar/restaurant roof was a mangled corona tent {unsanitary} and the chairs and pads were disgusting...and this was not the worst part. You could not eat, sleep or relax without constantly being bit by mosquitos or swarmed by flies. The bathroom smelled of sewer gas and the overhead fan had been disassembled to a simple light bulb. Screen doors were broken, leaving us sleeping without any protection of any kind. Truly a shame...This has such potential! Reminding ourselves that Mexico does not follow policy and procedures we enjoy in the States, we chose to leave after one night due to health and welfare concerns. The staff were so nice, it breaks my heart to write this, but it is quite expensive to have to find alternate lodging. Caveat Emptor!

Room Tip: Unless you stay in the Hacienda, avoid this resort.

This is hands-down the best location along Cerritos. You are literally steps away from a gorgeous beach that is perfect for both surfers and those of us who like to play in the surf but leave the board behind. Our family of three enjoyed our stay and will definitely look to return another time. That said, there are a few things that would make the Colony even better.

Pros - location, size of the 2 bedroom townhouse was incredible, beds were very comfortable, the pool was outstanding, people were friendly but we had as much privacy as we wanted, service, and the friendly felines made my son's day, everyday.

Con's - despite confirming otherwise, the kitchens are very poorly stocked. If you're planning to cook, be sure to either purchase inexpensive utensils/kitchen tools or ask the bar kitchen for loaners. We needed to get a pot and glasses. WiFi (even at the pool) is terrible. Lighting in the unit was poor. Air circulation is also poor, even with the sliding doors open we could not get a breeze through the building as there are no windows to open along the back of the unit (this especially noticeable in the back bedroom). The ceiling fans in the bedrooms did not work and were in desperate need of maintenance. Sliding screen doors were broken (they were fixed while we were there but should have been in working order upon arrival). Lastly, the thatched palapa roof is romantic but not well maintained.

Despite these shortcomings, we enjoyed our stay and felt that we received good value for what we paid. We did travel on a voucher and so got a great deal. I would not have been happy if we had paid their 'rack rates' given the state of the kitchen, fans and other small details.

Room Tip: We wish that we had been on the beachfront.

We came and stayed at Cerritos all the way back in March of 2011. At the time they were still in construction phases but had a great pool, restaurant and snack bar, activities including a jazz band, surf boards to rent, and several villas. Our stay was supposed to be for a two bedroom villa but after some confusion with our reservation we were upgraded to the sister complex, the Hacienda!!!

The Hacienda was an exceptional palace where you felt completely pampered and special during your entire stay. Our "room" was huge. We had the largest living room with breathtaking views of the ocean. We had a colossal bathroom with a stone shower, bathtub and large sink. Our bedroom had the most comfortable king size bed, tv, and a dome ceiling above our bed. What made it even better was that the walkout from our room revealed our own hot tub, infinity pool and patio overlooking that majestic coastline that we shared with only one other room. But we had the main Hacienda infinity pool and hot tub that we could use as well just a short walk away with our own private pool bar and bartender. There was also a kitchen facility that you could make your own dinners or breakfasts at if you so preferred.

The staff at the resort were very friendly and accommodating and truly made you feel welcome. They also gave us some good recommendations for where to go to eat, buy fish from local fisherman, shop, etc. We loved our stay and would recommend it to anyone looking for a secluded destination but with all of the luxuries.

this place is magical! my boyfriend and i came here to celebrate our anniversary and it was just beyond amazing. we stayed for a week and didn't want to leave, we would move in if we could! our villa was just steps away from the beach, the food at the bar/restaurant is delicious (i suggest the chicken nachos), they have very friendly cats and dogs roaming around, the staff is very friendly, the pool is huge with two big hot tubs. i honestly have no complaints of this place! it's been 6 months since we went and i think of it almost daily. when we went in may it wasn't very busy so we almost had the whole place to ourselves, it almost felt like it was home. the market and shopping is right up the street. cabo is about 45 minutes away but if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of cabo and truly experience mexico this is the place to do it!

Room Tip: i recommend getting the oceanfront villa, that way you have only the view of the ocean in front of you.

My husband and I visited the resort for our 10th anniversary. We loved the privacy, peace, and overall experience. We took surf lesson, walked the beach, lounged, got massages, and explored the surrounding towns! Many nearby restaurants and an amazing coffee shop.
