Have just submitted a review for the george as a hotel, I thought it was just a pub. Anyhow the food was very enjoyable and the Wadworth 6x was in good condition. My main course was £11 other meals were a couple of pounds more.

We enjoyed a nice meal here, it is very quaint and pretty inside, staff very friendly and helpfull, one draw back...we were asked to pay almost £5 vat on top of our £25 bill, we assumed it was a welsh thing, but no other resturant or hotel did this, during our stay, we paid the price on the menu's.

Booked a meal with friends turned out that it was Valentine themed night. Landlady rang before the night telling us it was set menu. There was still ample choices within the set menu. Food was superb. Service was great. Atmosphere was fine.
I had the pate starter followed by a lamb shank. Really good with a rich gravy.
The Camembert starter my wife had was so goood.

I'd like to give the place the benefit of the doubt that our experience was not representative. Early impressions weren't good, the wait for drinks was long. The loo's were in need of attention, the gents had no bulb and quite a crop of spiders webs and dead spiders. The ladies were a bit smelly and paper was strewn all over the floor (this was at 18:30 on a Saturday). The food had some disasters, the Thai prawn curry was inedible (intolerably spicy), the sauce on the chicken with mushrooms and Stilton was unpleasant and peculiar. We mentioned this and the chef aggressively responded. That put us off sticking around for dessert. A charming setting but we probably won't be back.
