Caldbeck village looks just like something you'd see on a jigsaw or chocolate box. Quaint stone cottages in pastel shades.
The cottage itself is luxurious - newly renovated with no expense has been spared.
We felt welcome - and the owner had even left a dog biscuit out for our four legged companion!
Calbeck is right at the northern edge of the Lakes and it takes a lot of twisty turny single lane country roads to get anywhere - but this is part of its charm. Keswick is about 15 miles away but allow 45 minutes to get there. A car is essential.
The village's smallness and isolated setting won't suit everyone. There's only one pub (the excellent Odd Fellows Arms) and one shop - so you soon get to know everyone - this can be a bit claustrophobic for city folk like ourselves.
If you want a picture-perfect village and a cosy, warm, clean, modern cottage then don't think twice - this is for you.
