We have booked Deluxe Studio Rooms of this resort based on good reviews / rating of 4* property but this turned out to be our biggest mistake. The resort is situated far away from main Ubud markets in isolation on a hill.
As soon as we checked in we were shocked to see our rooms which were situated towards backyard of the main resort in a building without any views. The rooms were so cheap and poor and even basic amenities were missing. They were like servant's room separate / different from main resort. For the first time ever I have stayed in a property where even there was no closed wardrobe to keep our clothes. Room furniture was very poor, even doors were so cheap that noise from corridors / other rooms can be easily heard. Bathroom / shower area size also very small and poor. Bath towels dirty, baby pillows of poor quality, plastic glasses in the room. Overall they were very cheap kind of rooms and do not match even basic standards of even a 3* property.
On complaining about the quality of rooms the manager replied that we have booked same category of rooms and cannot help. Agreed that we have booked the basic category of rooms but they should have minimal standards and amenities. Even base room categories in a 4*/5* hotels maintain some standards.
Breakfast was very limited and on order basis, the item can be taken only once. (Never experienced such before).
No lights in the pool / pool surroundings so you cannot swim in pools in evenings. Spa always remain closed no staff.

We are so happy to have found the Tanah Merah Art Resort just a short drive out of busy Ubud center. We loved our two-bed villa with the adjoining covered balcony that overlooked a lush forest. The inclusive breakfast each morning was something to look forward to and their on-site restaurant had many delicious and affordable choices. We enjoyed the sunrise on the roof deck where one can see the volcanic Mt. Batur and surrounding villages. We woke up laughing at dawn during a heavy rainstorm because of the nearby roosters responding to the thunder and lightning.
The highlight for us however was meeting and chatting with the owner of the hotel, Dr. Peter Block, and viewing his mind-blowing private art collection. He only opens his gallery when enough visitors express interest, so do yourself a favor and make contact to arrange a tour.

Great location in Ubud. Good breakfast. Fantastic staff.
There were many single villas.
In the greenery.
Beautiful areas all around.
Little things like AC makes noise, poor toiletries can be forgotten as staff are outstanding

Room tip: You will enjoy as only 15 mins car ride to main Ubud market.

We live in Bali and to escape the south Bali beaches Tanah Merah is absolutte perfect and have become our favorite place near by Ubud, a down to earth place surrounded with a wonderful nature and waterfall. Great and friendly-helpful staff.

Room tip: We love the Bali villas, but these ara wood style, if that is not your interest, Mads Lange villa or basic room in main building is great
