Fantastic price for a spontaneous treat on our mid week day off. Lovely cosy welcoming venue in Axbridge Square. Arrived early eve and welcomed to our room by Mark. Our room had a rustic charm but all the nice luxuries and comfiness which added to our treat.
We headed down to the bar for drinks and tapas. The Oak House serves an enormous range of gins many of which are local..and beautifully presented by Mark. I opted for the rhubarb and ginger which looked amazing..see photo!! I have seen gin n tonic look so appealing!! Very welcome after a long day! My partner opted for the 'Old Barn', a popular local ale.We shared some mouthwatering tapas in the bar as it was late evening, although we could have opted for a meal in the restaurant ( the menu will give us an excuse for a return trip!).
We enjoyed a lovely breakfast from the extensive choice, and were very well looked after by Faye who was bubbly and personable. As well as a cooked breakfast (I opted for scrambled eggs and smoked salmon!), there is a also a 'help yourself' table of fresh crusty bread delicious fruits and yoghurts, pastries and juices which were all displayed so appetisingly. The restaurant is such a great room...so much character and perfectly lit to make it cosy. I could have happily sat there for the morning with my coffee pot and a paper!
Thank you Mark for making us so welcome and being such an expert in the gin bar! We are already planning our return trip!
Would highly reccomend The Oak House.

Axbridge is a lovely town to visit (we are about to live there!). Oak House is full of character, good food and helpful staff. Only one grumble: Some bedrooms are overdue for refurbishment and ours was one of them.

Room Tip: Can't help with room preferences.

When you approach axe bridge square it could the set of a film scene medieval houses and church England at its best . Sitting in the square is the oak house hotel and restaurant . A warm welcome was given to us and advice on parking which safe and a short walk away just avoid school times and ample parking should be available. Our room was the I’ve stayed in Home and Abroad with a lovely view of the square. Food here was excellent and bar service knowledgable and keen , lovely girls waitressing , for two people in stressful jobs needing a relaxing break the oak house ticks all the boxes .
Eric the cat is a bit of a celebrity too.

We stayed on Sunday evening, on a Travelzoo deal.
Room was amazing, with every modern amenity.
The a la Carter dinner was first class, and wine a reasonable price too.
Breakfast was well cooked, and all with great service.
We aim to return with a group of friends.

Absolutely amazing! From the second we arrived the welcome was warm and the atmosphere was great! We were personally shown to our room which was exceptional!! The only fault we can find is the bed was very squeaky, so every time we would turn, we would wake. The quality of the room was phenomenal, a home away from home and the little touches were great.

We went for the half board option and the value for money was second to none, we had dinner credit for the evening meal and the food was to die for!!! I have never had such amazing quality food. As this was included in the rate we paid for the room it made the stay even more amazing. Breakfast the next morning was also exceptional and I'm more than sure the waitress ran to the shop to buy me some marmite ... thank you for that ladies!!

From start to finish this stay was faultless, we will definitely be returning and will be sure to recommend the hotel and restaurant to others! Thank you

It took me so long to post this review here as we have desperately been trying to return. We have made several attempts to contact the hotel directly as they do say they’ll offer a discounted rate for returning guests, unfortunately we have never received a reply and therefore have been slightly put off. I posted this review to Facebook immediately following our stay and am very disheartened that they haven’t responded to our requests to return.
