Beyond amazing; one of the special trips you do in your lifetime...!

Review of Alor Divers
5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 July 2024
This is one of those charmed destinations that isn't just about the Journey getting there, nor the idyllic location in Indonesia's eastern archipelago; but an absolute trip into stillness - above and below the tropical azure waters of the Pantar Strait (between Suva and Banda Seas. An absolutely mesmerizing voyage into ethnic splendor, diverse peoples and the refuge found at Alor Divers; starting not the least with Johnny, Coen and of course the colorful and seasoned French (Ghost Pipe) Diver extraordinaire - Pak Gilles and his talented entourage of trained Alor and Pantar local Island staff.

05:00 dawns glowing into sunrises for those who love to feel alive - early; fabulous wholesome, nutritional fresh local cuisine embellished to perfection with a few added delights, Dive sites that match the best in the world; from the macro - Blue Ringed Octopus & Pygmy Ghost Pipes, Harlequin Shrimp, Octopus, Giant Eagle Rays, Turtles, schooling Hammerheads (we were fortunate to see 20 some feeding at about 30Mt) and all the other 'usual suspects' along Reef Walls as colorful, diverse and clear that ever can be (limited only by the physics of light)! Sunset beach walks to either traditional Muslim or Christian Villages or just relax enjoying the white sands and house reef just in-front of your comfortable beach front bungalow/villa.

Our trip was an inspired father and sons re-union; 4 nights, 6 dives which is just enough....of course in this case - more is better!
Au prochain, allez, abientot et merci Gilles, Coen & Johnny

Hahaha the story of the two ghostpipefish will stay for long in here :D ... and yes we've seen quite a lot in three days, from small to big.
Glad you enjoyed the surroundings of the resort as much as we do - looking forward to your next visit for more exploration!

Our group of 5 had a most memorable week at Alor Divers. The resort is barely visible from the sea - we loved the privacy that we had at each of our bungalows, but yet we were treated to the most beautiful vista from the comforts of our beds and patios. We loved the intimacy of the small resort, the excellent hospitality of the staff. The food was truly scrumptious (including fresh baked bread every day). The diving was also amazing (hammerheads!!).... the dive itineraries were well planned and we never saw any other divers throughout the week, so we had the sites all to ourselves. Can't wait to visit again!

Room tip: You need a minimum of a week, to visit the best dive sites. Be prepared for variable current conditions.

Dear Audrey, thanks a lot for your nice review! We had a lovely time with the five of you, thanks for choosing our resort to celebrate the birthdays :)
We're glad you enjoyed our deluxe bungalows... indeed we try to always be the only ones on every site we dive, in order to truly enjoy the remoteness of Alor above and under water.
Looking forward to having you again in Alor soon!

Alor - a remote paradise - with a great ocean scenery you start your "normal" day in this untouched paradise. It continues with spectacular dives. You see a diversity of water species but especially also corals, which is quite rarely nowadays on this planet. The team at Alor Divers is simply outstanding - supportive and happy staff all day long. I had a fantastic time with Alor Divers and will be definitely be back.

What attracted us most was the setting of the resort and the length of the house reef.Based on our experience from our 1st trip to Alor with another resort,we came here with low expectations, snorkeling wise. We thought that we would end up spending our holiday at the house reef ,and how wrong we were. Alor Divers took us to all of the amazing dive sites that also great for snorkellers with beautiful coral gardens comparable to that of Raja Ampat. We requested one guide for myself as I am not a strong swimmer . Johnny , he has incredible eyes that can spot well camouflaged fish and small critters. Always checking out on me to make sure that I am not too far from him.

Totally love our Deluxe bungalow where we stayed. All the furniture are made of recycled wood, just beautiful and perfect for the surrounding. Also love the open air bathroom ,but I think the part of ceiling that connects to the room should be closed to minimise the unwanted visitors especially after the rain.

The buffet is small ,as we expected, but the quality of the food is good. In fact, Yuda the chef is quite inventive with the menu using limited resources they have on a remote island.

The managers ( Fred ,Coen, Melissa) are hands on and did their best to accommodate us. They have good sense of humour which is great.

Over all it was a fantastic holiday , and we will come back again next year for a small reunion with friends.

Thanks to everyone at Alor Divers for showing us the best of this beautiful island. See you again next year ,or maybe sooner for the whales !

      Big hugs 🤗 ❤️ 🤗

Dear Mamiek and Stuart, thank you so much for this kind words!
We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay with us; indeed we believe that snorkelers should have the same level of quality of the experience as the divers and we do our utmost to show you the best of Alor... and our shallow reefs are indeed in great shape and full of life. You even managed to see 37 sharks on one site, while the divers only saw 5 haha! Johni will be happy to hear that you spoke highly about him :)
We enjoyed your kindness and Stuart's sense of humor very much - definitely looking forward to having you again in November this year!

WOW…… Alor…… we are still rembering the GREAT time we had with Alor Divers on Pantar Island. Last August/September we stayed there for a great amount of nights. After a couple off flights we got picked up by a small boat to bring us to the resort on the other island. From there the crew of the resort TAKES CARE off you as a guest.

The resort is on a very peacefull location. No shops around, no noice of music, traffic or other sounds. Only the sound of the waves. In the morning you even wake up with the upcoming sun and in the evening the nice view on the stars and the Milky Way.

The bungalows all have ocean view and have all the things (we think) anybody needs: a daily cleaned bungalow, 230V, hot shower, good beds with fresh linnen, musquito net, fresh drinking water, hot water for tea or coffee, towels, Wifi and outsight a nice sitting area.

During our stay we never had problems with mosquitos. No bites and no other stinging insects at all. Only some goat and a gekko behind the mirror.

As a guest you only have to walk a short distance to get to the main building or the diving centre. In the main building they serve all the freshly cooked meals. In the morning always fresh baked bread (mostly still warm), a fresh baked egg and coffee or tea. Lunch and diner where always a buffet. The warm bananacake is super. For us enough to choose from.

After the dives you can also have a cold drink in the main building and enjoy the company of each other, look in the fish books or just have a conversation with each other. A great place to get together.

For the dives you walk to the beach, step with your suit and boots on in the small local boat. This boats brings you to the speedboat. A bigger boat or the speedboat cannot come closer because of depth and the reef. Everything (diving gear, tanks, food, drinks, groceries and drinking water) has to go in a boat, into the local boat, to the beach and vice versa. A lot of work you normaly do no think about.

The dive locations vary a lot and are by boat max 30 minutes. Sometimes there is a strange current (even in the dive). The water can be cold. Be prepared for a temperature between 22-28 degrees. We think this location is not for people with a small amount of dives

The diving is always in small groups and the crew on the boat helps you always to put on the gear or take it off. After the dives the crew takes care of the diving gear. The crew has that all under control. Nothing you have to worry about. You only need need to carry your mask and camera and nothing more than that. We felt as a KING and QUEEN.

The whole crew of the resort takes good care of guests. If it is the kitchen crew, the dive crew of the other staff. They where always friendly to us, always with a smile and a nice word. They want you to relax and enjoy.

We give this resort (and of course all the crew members) a BIG HAND for the hard work to make this holiday for us a PLEASANT period to remember.

THANK YOU! Tanjung Kelapa and “Houdoe”.

      Kinds regards, Mark and Jacqueline
