“Great for newbies and treated like friends”

Bira. It's a bit weird. It's a bin tang only kinda town and is populated by some friendly people, friendly goats and a huge orb spider we called Charlotte...(original? Moi?).

Chris, Udi and Rahman are great hosts, tutors and companions. They are well experienced, attentive and incredibly good people to be with.

We did the ssi open water course and were given 1.2.1 tuition, very clear guidance, well maintained equipment and some great lodgings and food. It's spartan but well maintained and in a truly beautiful location. The beach is white powdered and the snorkelling off shore is dreamy with turtles and forests of coral.

We did 6 dives in spectacular locations and were led well. The post dive food was good, but needs more snacks to buy as food is 2 hrs post dive. Chris, get the snacks in! ;)

Monkeys, snakes and wildlife are all present in the surrounding areas if you fancy a wander.. I recommend it! The camp is a few km out of the centre, so take provisions before you go, although the boat will stop at the shops for you!

I really enjoyed this place. You should go.

“Loved this dive outfit”
Reviewed 12 October 2013

My friends and I dove with Bira Divers for 2 days (2 dives per day) in Sept 2013. Each dive cost approximately $30 US per dive (10% less if you have your own gear). They checked our C-cards and briefed us at the shop prior to boarding the boat. The dive masters spoke excellent English and were very competent. The boats we used were hired fishing boats, with 3-4 divers per boat. I really like this aspect, as I think its important for the locals to have an alternative income, as much of the areas we visited in Sulawesi were overfished. Lunch was included with the dive day, and was a simple meal of rice, vegetables, and chicken in a tupperware reusable container (a rare site in Indonesia as most food items are packed in single use plastic).

Our 4 dives were excellent. We saw numerous white tip reef sharks, green sea turtles, marbled rays, and great coral cover. There were reports of hammerheads and a thresher shark in the area but we missed them. We dove, Shark Point, Turtle Point, Goat Wall, and Mola Point. Goat Wall was the stand out site, a deep coral wall with 100% soft coral cover and beautiful schools of red tooth triggers.

Bira Divers had started an associated dive operation called "Dive Camp" nearby Bira, a few km west with combined accommodations and diving. It didn't work out for us to dive with them, but I wouldn't hesitate to do so in the future. Bring your safety sausage and whistle to Bira, the currents can be strong.

“Best dive site & great people”
Reviewed 9 October 2013

After clocking 70 dives+ all accross South East Asia, from Borneo, to Bali, Lombok, Malaysia, Thailand, Sumatra, I must admit that Bira was my best experience. Amazing visibility, amazing landscape, away from the civilization.
The diving camp was great, Bira divers is doing the job. Brand new equipment, safety first, nice boat.
Want to go back already.

“Good Dive centre”
Reviewed 3 October 2013 via mobile

Bira divers is a safe and fun place to dive. Udi and Rahman are great people as well as great divers and guides. A lot of the equipment is brand new and they cater for all levels by allowing you to pretty much choose dive sites.
