One of my favourite Philippines experiences! If it is not too hot/humid, the best way to experience the volcano is by hiking. Although riding a horse was a pretty cool experience up the volcano. Amazing view! Would be better with a guide to explain some things. But the beauty of the Philippines is that it is pretty well, or by other Asian countries standards, untouched by tourism

2h drive from Manila to Taal lake, a 40 min boat ride across to the Volcano base and then a good 2.5 hour trek walking or 1 hour horse back. You will be greeted with the most amazing views of inside a volcano crater and around the lake. The Volcano is still active with smoke rising from the various pot holes. You can also take a swim in the waters of the volcano which is supposed to have healing properties?!? Definitely worth the journey to get there.

We did a package tour, boat ride-hike (included horses and guides but we just hiked) and all entrance/parking fees. The cost was 5,000 pesos for a family of four and it was well worth it. The view is spectacular and makes the hike worth it. It took about half a day to do it all but if you go to Tagaytay its a must!

We couldn't get a boat to the Taal Volcano so took the next best option. From the hill top we could clearly see the volcano and the awesome scenery surrounding the Taal volcano.
Well worth the visit to Tagaytay City to get a few photos of this volcano.

This was one of the highlights of our trip! While it is a rather expensive activity, it is a unique experience that we enjoyed tremendously. To describe it in short, it is a lake on an island, in the lake there is a volcano (active, by the way, you can see smoke coming from the ground in several areas), in the volcano there is another lake. The view is breath-taking, photographer's heaven. The hike to the summit is great, not particulary difficult (even if a bit dusty). A few more notes, just so you can have the full picture of the experience and fully enjoy yourself. I would suggest to not take the horse ride to the top, they are not taking good care of the animals, they look pitiful. If enough people refuse to take the horse, maybe they will improve their condition. Our guide was not great, just waked in front of us and that's about it. This suited us just fine, since we wanted to explore by ourselves, but you should have this in mind. We booked a full-day tour from Manila, that included transportation to and from, boat and guide. This gave us peace of mind, and we didn't have to worry about making separte arrangements for each section of the trip. Oh, and make sure you have a waterproof bag for the boat trip and a change of clothes, you will need it.
