I have stayed here on a few occasions and look forward to returning. It's a charming place in its way, well off the beaten track, homely and rustic. It is a converted mill set in lovely countryside next to the small river Hem. The rooms I have stayed in have been comfortable and warm in the winter. Some may find them a bit basic and there is no TV in the rooms. The dining room has a fine encaustic tiled floor. There is a range of set menus and the food is quite good if a little overpriced, the breakfast simple and adequate. The lounge-bar is comfortable and quite unique but the television, if tuned to a station you don't like, can be annoying. The staff are helpful and charming.

The auberge is tucked away so well it can be difficult to find but well worth the effort. I would emphasise the word 'rustic' and it is not the place to go if you want a chic hotel. It's a quiet and welcoming delight.

This was our third visit to the Moulin and as always were not disappointed with the food, considering the price. However investment is now needed in the bedrooms. It is not acceptable to have to sleep with threadbare linen and in a bed well past its comfort date. Nevertheless the room and bathroom were kept very clean and the towels, which again are desperately in need of replacing, were changed everyday. No one was on the desk when we arrived and after ringing the bell and waiting for several minutes we eventually took the key against our names in the guests book and found our own way to the room. It is run by few staff who are always very friendly. I would love to go again as the hotel is in such a beautiful position but the shoddiness of the rooms is now making me think twice.

Room Tip: Opt for a room looking down the river and preferably not over the weir if it is likely to be in full...

having had a nightmare of a hotel on our way through France at the beginning of our holiday, we were rather anxious about our return trip and our visit to this unknown, very inexpensive, guest house. We needn't have worried. Communication was friendly and professional, and when we arrived we found the place to be absolutely charming. The room (for 3 adults and a baby) was spotless, and the cot ready made up for our grandson. A lovely bonus was the provision of baby lotion, baby bath, cream etc in the bathroom: a great surprise and very thoughtful!

In the middle of nowhere, we knew we would either have to eat in the restaurant at the Auberge or get back into the car to drive somewhere to eat (not what we wanted to do after 9 hours on the road). We opted to eat there and were very pleased we had. The food was fresh, mostly locally sourced, beautifully presented, and tasted fabulous: their chef is superb! They were very flexible about the start time for breakfast, given that we had to be back on the road early to catch a ferry, and breakfast again was fresh and well presented.

We would very much recommend it and will definitely go again if we need somewhere to stay in that area.

You get what you pay for. This is a reasonably priced country inn in typical French style. It is not a luxurious 5*, the bedrooms are quite basic but clean and are suitable for an overnight stay. Unusually for this type of property though, we were offered aperetifs in the bar before our meal and were able to choose from the menu there, not going through to the restaurant until our meal was ready. The food was excellent and I would really call this a restaurant with rooms rather than a hotel. The breakfast was a buffet with the usual breads, croissants, cold meats and cheese. It was completely help yourself as there were no staff evident at all. I suppose if you went down to breakfast late and there were greedy customers before you then it could become a bit sparse. If you do go there try not to have room 1 as it is over where the driers etc are situated and it sounded as though they were working most of the night! 138 euros for B&B evening meal drinks and wine which is pretty good.
