A stay at Swan Hill Hotel was booked for me as a birthday gift by family in order to enable us to go over to the River Cottage HQ for a meal. While the meal was brilliant, a night away at Swan Hill Hotel was the best part of the gift.

On arrival we were ushered into the sitting room for gorgeous home made tea and cakes before being shown to our room, which was just lovely. We had the flamingo paper room - can't remember the number, a double ensuite room. We had tea and coffee making facilties with real milk - in a little bottle in the mini fridge and home made gingernuts that made your mouth water for more.
There was no bath but we had the most fantastic power shower in a spangly clean bath room with high end Elemis toiletries which was a nice little extra touch.

In the evening we realised we rather foolishly had not pre booked our taxi to River Cottage. Simon the owner made an emergency call to a mate who fitted us in to his schedule and saved the day, to be honest nothing was too much trouble, he even got another set of guests who were at RC the same evening to bring my "surprise birthday" cake up with them when my husband realised he had left it in the room.
Wonderful place, lovely people. Only wished we had stayed a bit longer..........

Stayed overnight recently at swan hill house, where do I start..........., Simon and Libby the hosts are extremely friendly and make you feel at home from the start, the room was absolutely immaculate and there was not a thing out of place. The bathroom was also spotless.

Provided was everything you needed, plenty of tea and coffee and much thought had gone into this. the breakfast was plentiful and just wonderful, as I was on business on this occasion but was ever in the area would not hesitate booking this hotel, I stayed with my wife and overall both of us were highly impressed, you would find it very hard to find anything negative.

We (two couples) stayed here when we were visiting River Cottage and it was perfect. When I booked they thought to ask if everyone was ok with feather duvets and had a stand by alternative just in case, I asked them to book the taxi for RC at the wrong time so they checked and emailed me to say they'd changed it so we arrived on time (no thanks to me!).

That tells you everything you need to know about this place, attention to detail, thoughtful, genuinely welcoming, fantastic homemade ginger cake when we arrived and yummy shortbread in the room, excellent nights sleep, breakfast in the morning was wonderful and they gave us some brilliant tips on where to go that morning (down to the beach at Beer).

We try and go to River Cottage at least once a year, now we have the perfect place to stay I can see us going more often.

We only stayed one night at Swan Hill House as we were dining at nearby River Cottage - it was the perfect place to stay. The room was large, beautifully decorated and furnished, and very clean. The ensuite was very modern and the whole room was very comfortable. Little touches such as home made macaroons and a selection of teas, coffee and fresh milk in the room made it feel very special. On arrival we were asked if we'd like complimentary tea and homemade cake in the lounge which was lovely. In the morning despite being the only guests staying that night we came down to a great selection of fresh fruit, juices, yogurts, cereals and cooked breakfast options - all totally delicious. We'd highly recommend and would definitely stay there again when we are in the area.

We stayed here one night as we were attending River Cottage experience, Simon was very welcoming with plenty of suggestions for things to do in the area as well places to go eat and drink.

The breakfast was delicious and the rooms very comfortable and well decorated.

If we are in the area again we will definitely return!
