This place is a bit weird, misses the soul. Food is great but it feels like the staff hasn't the "love". The interior feels a bit loveless also. Why? Not enough eye fot the detail. But still great food!

Great Japanese food. Not just for the sushi but their other dishes were good as well. Though, you won't regret if you get the sushi-mi plate. The staff speak Japanese so it adds to the authenticity.

From the outside, Isakaya doesn't look like much, but it's a lovely simple decor when you step inside. Excellent sushi and gyoza, all the usual small plates one expects from a Japanese sushi bar, with a few items one might not expect (Ankimo, for example -- monkfish liver pate -- isn't on many menus and it's a real treat).

The food presentation is very nice if not extravagant, the service is pleasant. The place is spare but not too spare -- in all, a great weekday evening dining experience, and reasonably priced.

We were seated just after the doors opened early Saturday evening. Dining experience was casual and it felt family run, which was delightful. Freshly prepared food served quickly by very attentive waitstaff.

An authentic, reliably family run Japanese Isakaya (in Japanese - an establishment that serves food with drinks).
My favorites are oysters with ponzu sauce (now in season), scallops Batayaki, rock shrimp, mackerel sashimi, the eggplant (Age Nasu). The meat skewers are surprisingly good - tender beef, lamp, liver and chicken,
The sushi bar is staffed with an expert Japanese chef (the owner sometimes helps), and the makis and nigiri is perfect. My favorites are spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls, ikura sushi, king salmon and yellowtail sashimi.
Hakutsuru sake will conveniently accompany the above and is reasonably priced.
