Although it is a bit out of the way for us, each time we travel to Montreal, we make a point of having dinner here one night. We have not been disappointed yet.

Thanks TripAdvisor colleagues for leading us to a real find, one that would not have been on our radar otherwise, and without which we would have missed a new treasure. Every month we choose a new restaurant in rotation. This month was mine, and I chose Le Grain based entirely on TripAdvisor commentary, and we were well advised.

Excellent service started with a smile at the front door, once we had navigated the double doors and hanging draperies, reminiscent of a Parisian bistro we love called the Le Timbre. We were led to our table along the back wall, all along the way greeted by staff, firstly behind the bar, then the kitchen, and finally at our table. So far so very good.

Water glasses were filled as menus were provided. While the daily menu was very interesting, we happened upon a Valentine's Day tasting special which we selected at $55/person. A five course delight, which we supplemented (totally unnecessarily) with a shared appetizer of the house specialty, Black Pudding.

Only the main meal was a variable choice, and we had, between us, all three choices, piglet, duck, and osso bucco. Everyone was delighted. And frankly to describe the preparations in this way leaves way too much unsaid, and I wish I could do them justice, but trust me you will not be disappointed in the food, no way.

To accompany the meal we choose a Petite Syrah from California, an excellent private importation.

All along the way we were extremely well served at every turn.

This restaurant deserves all its accolades and more. Impress your friends, take them for a culinary treat in an area of town you simply would not expect to find Montreal's highest rated restaurant.

This is one of the top restos in Montreal and once you go there, you understand why. The food is very good, as good as any other great restaurants but what puts this resto on the top are the little details. Such as, the waiter is very helpful and knowledgeable kind. The chef comes to see you after the meal to ensure everything is good and best of all, it is very reasonably priced.

I was there with my boyfriend, we each had an entrée, dish, dessert, coffee and 1 alcoholic beverage and it cost 60$ tax included/pp. SERIOUSLY?, I have been to similar restaurant which is at least 75$/pp.

We had the mini burgers (delicious and melts in your mouth), the duck foie gras served with homemade jam (yum). The main dishes were the beef shank (very tender and flavorful) and the pork shoulder which was made into a croquette, not as tender as the beef, very interesting with mix of flavor with the other items in the plate.

If you like lemony desserts, you must try their lemon verrine. It is light, served with nuts and the lemon taste is not overpowering.

We recently had a most delicious meal at the Grain de Sel. This small lovely chef owned and run, open kitchen bistro is perfect for any foody who loves something a little different. The service was prompt and excellent. The wine list focused on interesting private import. The food was delicious! And yes, the chef briefly dropped by every table during the course of the evening.
