We managed to get a last minute reservation off the waiting list and it was worth the re-scheduling required. The rustic charm of the restaurant is only surpassed by the quality of the food and the service. This BYOW restaurant is a must for any foodie who does not want to brake the bank !!!

Small, familly owned restaurant on Ile Bizard, adjacent to Montreal's West island. Exquisite dishes prepared and served by the chef and his spouse ( the owners ). Slightly on the pricy side, but definitely offset by the "bring your own wine" policy. Overall, my best dining experience in Montreal, for many years.
Make sure you reserve loooong before you plan to be there.

I love this restaurant which is situated on L'ile Bizzard. The dining area is an old house that is occupied by the owners. The food is always a cut above. The service is incredible and is hosted by one of the owners. She is very friendly and compliments her husband who is the chef. There is nothing on the menu that you can go wrong with. Whatever I ever had there was delicious. My favorite is the lamb. I always make it a point to order soup there as i can honestly say that it is always incredible. The place is small and you feel like you are sitting in their dining room. That statement is not far from wrong as the young couple live in the house upstairs.
The only down side of Bistro 1843 is that you have to call a few months in advance to get a reservation. I guess that should be a good thing because it solidifies my opinion of this place.

I had the pleasure of dining at the Bistro on my birthday. The Chef is a master saucier. The crab cake is by far the best I've had and I've travelled around many countries around the world. Subtle flavors, big lumps of crab with a great crust and an amazing sauce. The soups are amazing and they have a seasonal menu that sells out quickly. Reservations are a must but can be lengthy. Well worth the wait. The only negative is the decor. But who cares....I'm there for the food!
