“Luxe but is anyone home?”
Reviewed 3 January 2012

Can't fault the hotel design-wise. Our junior suite was unquestionably comfortable and spacious and we lived very happily there for two days. The public areas are splendid and although the hotel has been open for some time, the styling is still on trend and even ahead of the pack for Montreal. All good so far. BUT since we checked into the hotel for Christmas, it would have been handy if their website had indicated that they were planning to be rather 'out to lunch' service-wise for the holiday period. We had to hunt for someone to attend us at check-in as the reception was totally unattended. Later, when coming downstairs, we encountered members of the staff sitting around in the foyer scratching lottery quick pick tickets. Don't think I'm Scrooge, but standards ought to be maintained. It was all a little like that for the two days we were there. Be warned too that the hotel only runs partial room service: breakfast till 11.30 (and those folks WERE efficient), then nothing until 6.30pm when you can order room service dinner from Vauvert, a restaurant within (but operated separately from) the hotel. That food is GOOD. Too bad, however, if you want lunch. When I queried this hiatus with desk staff, they informed me that it was a small hotel (uplifted hand gesture), but at 100 plus rooms that is sufficient for full service. It's not a motel in Trois Rivieres. In the end, if you wanted full service, you might be better a few hundred metres along Rue St Paul at the Nelligan. If you want style and spaciousness and can forgive the lack-of-being-in-the-global-service-industry, then you can stay here. Who knows, by that time they might have hired a manager who trained somewhere other than a motel in Trois Rivieres.

Room Tip: definitely go the extra mile and get the Junior Suite: two rooms and a large, elegant bathroom.

St-Paul has a great location and rooms that, while small, are extremely quiet, well appointed, and have proportionally very large bathrooms. Rate was good ($159 base rate excluding taxes). Staff service was a little mixed: nonchalant at best, confused at worst. Front desk checkout was haggard and confused and took a long time. Check-in (albeit at a very late hour) was not crowded but took about the same time to process. Service at the hotel bar, even during off-peak times, was indifferent, and left my colleagues and I frequently waving for service even though we were the only ones standing at the bar.

Room Tip: Higher floors have nicer views and are quieter.

Stayed at the St. Paul for just one night for business. Great location- close to Old Montreal as well as walking distance to Place Victoria and train station.

Room was very modern -- not a lot of space for lounging, but suited my needs. Comfortable bed. I was on 6th floor and my window looked right into an office window across the street so had to keep my drapes closed.

Overall a very nice experience, would stay there again and recommend to others.

We stayed there Oct 14 and 15, 2011 as part of a wedding group.
Corporate rate for a queen (1 bed) superior room was $189.00 plus applicable taxes and for a queen (2 beds) superior room was $229.00 ($40.00 extra just for having another bed!). But wait! With 4 people in the room we were charged another $40.00 per night giving a per night rate of $249.00 plus applicable taxes.
If you like dark corridors and low lighting this is the place for you.
Accounting was atrocious but worked out in the end.
The valet (Oct 14) and the room attendants were great.
Would I stay there again? NO!!

I was afforded the luxury of staying at the St. Paul for our company sales meeting. I planned the meeting with Brenda Dionne and she was amazing to work with. I was completely confident that everything would be perfect from the rooms to the food. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Thank you St. Paul team for making our stay perfect!
