Description: Pero Restaurant is as rich and diverse as Eastern African culture. The spectrum Pero Restaurant cuisine can be said to lie between two dietary extremes: vegetarianism and carnivorism. The essence of good Eastern African cooking revolves around the appropriate use of aromatic spices. The skill lies in subtle blending of a variety of spices to enhance, rather than overwhelm the basic flavour of a particular dish. Pero food relies on the spices in which it is cooked, just as Japanese Sushi relies on the freshness of the meat, and Chinese food relies on the various sauces to impart the right flavour and taste. It is interesting to see an Eastern African chef at work with a palette of spices, gratuitously sprinkling these powders in exact pinches into the dish in front of him. It is these complexities of regional food in Eastern Africa that make it such a fascinating experience.

Most people have never tried Ethiopian food before they should start right here.
Great service even better when the owner Pero is in the house. He takes pride in his work and takes time to explain the Eritrean delicacies. The injira might be strange for some at first but when you start eating and tasting those flavours wow delicious. I recommend getting the platter! This place is also great for vegetarians because let's face it there's not a whole lot of options for vegetarians out there.
Service is always lovely. Finishing off with the traditional coffee and popcorn is always a delight. Try it!

This was our first time here. The staff was very friendly and helpful we got the pero’s platter and vegetarian platter. The owner gave us more of the vegetable dishes to try since it was our first time. Delicious food!! The chicken tibsi was so good and the split pea lentils and okra and mushrooms also! We really enjoyed it and will definitely come back!

We ordered a vegetarian platter to share, then had the coffee and popcorn. The injera was not my favourite, because it tasted very fermented, almost too much for my taste. It was a bit too sour for me. The platter was okay.. I've had better injera at another Ethiopian restaurant. I would have preferred something else at the centre of the platter, other than a salad.

Our favourite was actually the popcorn and the coffee. The popcorn was just really delicious and seasoned well. It was a bit salty, but sweet and also very light.

The service was great and it did not take long for our food to arrive.

I love the seating area near the front of the restaurant. It's very comfy and you will also find some beautiful artwork on the walls.

First time to try this place and I was impressed by the atmosphere and food quality. I'd definitely go back and think it's worth a try if you've never been. Food tasted delicious and it is nice to have this style of food available in our city.

The Eritrean owner/chef, Pero, is a delightful man who takes great pride in offering superb hospitality and excellent food. The restaurant has a wonderful ambience, with tables in zones so one always feels like you are having an intimate dining experience. And the music is not intrusive. The food is a cut above the Ethiopian food that is available in some of the other restaurants in the neighbourhood. Often Pero treats diners to special appetizers, and if he knows that you are there for a special occasion he might do an amazing pyrotechnic display to help you celebrate. This is one of our favourite restaurants in Toronto. It is also a hangout of a certain Grammy award-winning artist.
