A necropolis is a large ancient cemetery with elaborate tomb stones. Toronto Necropolis is not that large and the tomb stones are not anything crazy. Mount pleasant cemetery is definitely larger with all kinds of tomb stones, monuments and mausoleums and a better choice if you want to see elaborate grave sites. On the other hand, the unique thing about this cemetery is the old tomb stones and the well known political figures, such as Jack Layton, buried there. The engraving on a good number of stones was worn down and you could not read what was written on them. The oldest burial site that I spotted was from 1854. A nice small church/funeral chamber is also located at the entrance of the cemetery.

This is a beautiful old cemetery with tombstones recording Toronto's history in intricately wrought masonry. The executed , the victims of plagues and the mighty lie together overlooking the city both to the east and south. Right beside the city's Farm Zoo it can provide an afternoon for the history buff or a great romp for the family dog (on a leash).

A nice place for a stroll if you're into doing walks in cemeteries. It has a quiet charm and is a good place to visit if you want to learn something about those who were before us. Some interesting markers.

A nice old cemetery with many historical bits and pieces relating to Toronto and Cabbagetown's past. It's a pleasant, peaceful walk while imagining the lives of inhabitants here and a great place to reflect on life. Unfortunately due to snow, ice and tree debris I found myself almost walking over headstones and broken bits of memorials which I found a bit sad. If you need a lift afterwards, head to nearby Riverdale Farm where its lively animals will put a smile on your face!
Well worth a visit if in Cabbagetown..

I love this small, historic cemetary. It's located in a beautiful part of the eastern edge of Cabbagetown, next to Riverdale farm. Cemetaries are filled with unique markers and messages that hints at the lives of the "occupants'. This one isn't as impressive or elaborate as Mt Pleasant, but it has it's own quiet charm.
