“Shabby and outdated.”
Reviewed 8 May 2012 via mobile

I don't like this hotel at all. It really needs an update...bordering on shabby right now. This is my first stay in Ottawa, and I love the city, but I sure hope this hotel is NOT indicative of other accommodations in the area. My problem now is that I would like to check out and go somewhere else, but everything is sold out.

Spent 3 nights at the Capital Hill Hotel & Suites to hold a conference. The hotel is not one of the newest but is well maintained. The staff were most helpful in providing everything we required to make our conference successful. Our executive suite contained a mini-boardroom table; thus, enabling us to make final arrangements in an organized setting. The the conference rooms we required as well as our suite were definitely reasonably priced. The close proximity to the parliament buidings and a number of other attractions enabled us to see and do a great deal on foot. Hotel parking was limited but extra parking was available across the street at the same hotel price($15/night). Would certainly consider using this facility for future conferences or a weekend with family.

We booked this hotel for our visit with our family because we wanted a place near enough to our tourist stops to be able to walk. We also appreciated the relatively low price and the kitchenette (after having been on the road for over a week). My kids thought it was a pretty cool room as the decor was nice and because of the kitchen (dishes and such included). The room was spacious with seating and the beds were comfortable. The lobby was nice but our corridor was looking quite worn and had a slight odor. The odor did not exist in our room, however, so we were not bothered. The bathroom and kitchen were very plain but clean and adequately spacious. There was a large balcony overlooking Albert St below. The traffic noise was not too bothersome but it (and the street construction noise) was enough to wake us in the morning - not a problem for us but worth noting. Service was good - though we booked for only two days, we decided within hours of arriving that we would like to stay another day and our room booking was extended at the same special rate we got for booking two nights in advance. Parking has a fee ($15/day, I think - similar to other hotels in the area) and is a bit of a hassle. The space is tiny and involves a lot of juggling by the valets to move people in and out of the way. Still, if you give them about ten minutes notice, they will bring your car to the front of the hotel for you. You have to leave your keys at the desk but can retrieve them if you need to get into your vehicle (we just used our second set). My husband didn't mind the parking manouvers but I would have just relied on the valets as the jammed lot is not for the faint of heart. From the hotel, we walked to Sparks St. (just steps away), Parliament HIll, SUpreme Court, the canal, the tomb of the unknown soldier, Byward market, shopping centre and more - all with kids 9&11. We decided to drive to Rideau hall to save our legs. There is an intersection behind the hotel with a Starbucks, a Time Hortons and another coffee shop if you prefer to get out of the hotel for your morning coffee.

Room Tip: Consider whether morning business travel from the street below will bother you and perhaps ask for a...

Stayed one night at Capital Hill Hotel, for business. The hotel is in a good location, close to Parliament, an indoor shopping center, and within walking distance of several restaurants and pubs. The rate was pretty good as well. Room was average, nothing to wow you. Bed was rather firm, and bathroom was somewhat "industrial" in appearance. My room also had a small kitchenette with a sink, small coffee maker, and some cupboards. I didn't need to use it during my brief stay.

The disappointment was to do with the room. It was cold and stuffy with nothing to adjust to change that. Sleep was hard to come by. There was no hotel information. It was old fashioned and worn out as were the corridors outside. Paying $2.50 at a vending machine for a small bottle of water was the last straw. But I suppose you pay for what you get.

Room Tip: Don't get 615 - it is a small room divided off from a larger one and the bathroom probably used...
