Getting the reservation:
I tried contacting this restaurant on several occasions to make a reservation for a party of 8. They never answered their phone, it went directly to voicemail. The recording indicates if you are a party of 8 or more please contact Jamie at extension "xxxx". We were a party of 8 looking for a private/quiet area to celebrate my in-laws 50th wedding anniversary. I didn't hear back and after 1 week I called again with no success. I was forced to make the reservation on OpenTable. Even in the message section of Open Table I wrote that the reservation was for a 50th wedding anniversary and to please call me to arrange a private area.....no call. We left it. The day before our reservation I called to at least confirm they see the reservation....I was able to reach the events coordinator, Jamie, but she told me "I book events for 9 people or more". I explained to her not only does the voice mail indicate 8 or more people but why wouldn't you at least call me back. All she said was "sorry about that" and put me through to the restaurant. Surprise, no answer. I left a message and thankfully I did receive a confirmation call back the next day confirming.
The day of the reservation:
My in-laws arrived before us as we arranged for a carriage ride of Niagara-on-the-lake to drop them at Prince of Wales. When they arrived they headed for Noble and indicated that we have a reservation for 8 and gave the last name. They were told they could not find it. The manager was called over and he couldn't find it. I showed up about 5 minutes later and said its for a party of 8 under my name...then they found it???
The service & food:
When we were seated our server came over and asked "where is XXXX" and continued to say to me "happy anniversary". First of all, I am 39 years old. This "50th" was for my in-laws. Did I look at least 65 to you??? Get your facts straight.....your a high class restaurant?
Only 3 of us ordered cocktails and when he arrived with our drinks he gave them to wrong people.
We ordered some appetizers and those all came fine. We ordered our meals and those too came fine. BUT.....should you order a meal and want to split it into 2 meals (this was our servers suggestion as the $72 steak was large, 20oz) they add a $10 surcharge.
2 people in our party ordered the chicken and pasta. It was bland and 1 person had a slice of chicken while the other was over loaded. They had to "ask" for cheese. Really? 1 person in our party received his $72 steak medium-well and asked for it medium. We advised the server and he did nothing. We ordered dessert and coffee. Usually when you order coffee at a restaurant they bring you milk/cream and sugar. Not this place, it came black and I had to ask for condiments.
From the beginning my experience with the restaurant was a disaster. And even more when we were there. Our bill was over $800. Our server, I am sure, was expecting at least 15% but I am sorry, he did nothing about the steak, the food was bland, management of the restaurant is par and you have untrained bus boys. This all reflects on the server. If the server doesn't make it right then the tip suffers. I gave him less than 10% and when he processed my visa and saw the amount on the receipt he gave me a very rude and grumbling thanks and walked away. WOW! Classy. Not to mention when we left we lingered a bit in the hotel lobby and our server walked by twice giving me "the look".
To be honest we should have ate somewhere else after the trouble I was experiencing even trying to get a reservation. The trouble was the carriage ride stopped at the Prince of Wales and we thought it nice to have the ride end there for dinner. Plus if you requested to have the carriage ride end somewhere else they charge a fee. Noble makes itself out to be classy and of high standard but it's not. It's over priced and the servers/bus boys are untrained. They have a dress code on their website which they don't bother to enforce. People walked in with jeans and hoodies while others were dressed up. It's a mess of a place to be honest and we will never go back.
