I recommend this hotel for a very authentic and "untouristy" holiday stay. The view is the most obvious outstanding feature, and it is absolutely spectacular - the light constantly changes and, if you're lucky, there will be a thunder storm over Milan while you're there that will illuminate the sky. And do not miss a walk to the Sanctuary, very peaceful and even better views.
The drive up to the hotel is also a great feature, unless you're a nervous driver. I have to say, I really enjoyed this, but do try not to forget anything as when, you get to the bottom, "just popping back to get my camera" will possibly lead to an argument!
Hotel food is very good, do stay and have an evening meal there. The hotel is family run, and a lovely family. English is a bit limited but, hey, what the heck, we managed fine, and communicating was fun. I also really enjoyed a couple of slightly tricky discussions about a) my initial choice of wine (in which I was persuaded to change my mind) and b) how to use the coffee machine (and not have too much espresso in one go). Maybe unnecessary, but it added to the charm of the place.
Talking of charm, anyone who has stayed in Italy slightly off the beaten track (and often on it too) will be used to fairly "plain" bedrooms and bathrooms that are unlikely to feature in Grand Designs. Well, the rooms are more than comfortable but they do conform to type.
In terms of the area, Lago d'Orta is fab, so is Maggiore (I much prefer Orta), and both Milan and Turin are within a pretty east drive (once you've got to the bottom of the hill). Malpensa is about an hours easy drive away.
Fab - just go, you can't possibly regret it!

Room tip: A room with a view (to coin a phrase)

Once you've got up to the hotel you are set for a stunning view from the balcony of your room, and the picture windows in the dining room and breakfast room. The light on Lake Orta changes the view all the time. The room is decorated in a rather sparse manner, but the view is all. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom was good. What sets the hotel in the excellent category however, is the truly delicious food served for dinner. We were there for three nights and both had amazing food each night, and of course, excellent wine to go along with it. Clorinda, the waitress, made each mealtime into an event.

We stayed in June for a few days prior to our departure from the Milan airport which is an easy distance away. Food was excellent, well prepared and fresh. Road up is unusual for most U.S. citizens fortunately my husband learned to drive in the mountains of California and West Virginia. The views are lovely and there is good terrace as well as rooms with a view. Staff is very polite and helpful. Nice drives nearby. Breakfast not up to evening standards. Coffee needs an upgrade.

Room tip: Of course the rooms with a view if possible. But the others are all right since the terrace is available.

This hotel offers the most stunning view one can get of the Lago 'd Orta. But beside this view, the food is of excellent quality (a not too sophisticated card), the rooms are nice and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
The road to the hotel is perhaps a bit difficult for less experienced or drivers, since it is fairly steep and narrow. (but in the end, safe and well to do)
Given all this, the pricing is modest compared to what one has to pay for similar hotels in the region.

Room tip: Ask for a room with Lake view. If these are not available, the other rooms have windows on the side and offers a nice but less attractive view too.

We were headed to Lake Orta, and we had no idea what fabulous surprise awaited us. We had booked a night at the Hotel Panoramico, and all I knew, is that the address said Madonna del Sasso and that there was to be a beautiful view of the lake. We kept going up, and up, and up this narrow road-and when we got to the top, we were greeted with the hotel. The owner didn't speak English, but he took us up to our room, and nothing could prepare us for what we saw: We had two balconies facing the lake. The view was absolutely breathtaking!

We walked to Madonna del Sasso and watched the sun set, and then had a fabulous meal(truffles!!) at the hotel(Thank goodness we didn't have to drive back down). Our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer. I kept getting up at sunrise to take pictures!!

Room tip: Ask for a beautiful view.
