The design is based on a stack of books, which I couldn't figure out until after the fact. Light pours in from every direction. Every floor is a revelation with local research high lighted on one floor, media, studio on another, children's delights, cafes with exhibition space, and a rooftop garden. Plenty of space speaks to the future use as Halifax is definitely transitioning to upscale tastes.

One of the most beautiful libraries I have ever seen. Modern & with many innovative centres including a recording studio, study booths, children’s centre, gaming area, great hall for functions & concerts& a roof top garden. Worth visiting.

Spend at least 20 minutes here. Filled with natural light a skylight through a central atrium criss crossed with stairs and bridges from a Harry Potter film. It consists of various colored glass boxes cantelevered at offset angles providing a spacious interior with interesting and inviting spaces and seating. Coffee shop on top level with outdoor balcony. Must see.

You would wish there was more modern architecture in Halifax like the central library. It functions, breathes and interacts with the city.

You certainly don't need to take out a book to go here. Check out the cafés, hang out in the chairs inside or outside for a bit or a long time, and do go to the top floor for a great view of Halifax.

As libraries go, this is one of the best I've ever set foot in. Ultra-modern in its design, it has become one of the city's most used public buildings and, with two superb cafes on site, a popular meeting place for the locals. The amenities are second-to-none and extremely user-friendly. No visit to Halifax would be complete without paying it a visit.
