It was raining - all day! What better place than to visit the museum.
The start gave us a good omen - two ladies who took our coats and hung them up with an identity label. Thus there was no need to lug around our wet coats all day.
We bought tickets for both the museum and the adjoining imax theatre at the same time.
The first floor (second floor in the NA language!) was about the geography of BC and how it came about. Then on the flora and fauna of the developing land. Huge dioramas with life sized animals both current and extinct. Beautifully done. As with all museums now it forecast how climate change would affect BC. I am afraid that I have become immune to the constant harping on about the gloom and doom that is going to descend upon us and passed quickly on. (Museum designers please note - it has become boring).
On the 2nd (3rd) floor the exhibits were absolutely outstanding. I cannot begin to say how fascinating it was to read about the people, industries and labour usage in a developing country. So much history and artefacts to illustrate it in such graphic detail. Probably the best museum exhibit I have seen anywhere in the world.
The imax cinema visit was, of course, superb as you would expect.
All in all one of the best museums I have visited. Don’t miss it!

This museum is a treat, and we have visited it on both of our trips to Victoria. My daughter loves it and calls it the "Elephant museum" due to the giant Mammoth that is located in one of the exhibit halls.

The highlight of this museum is their recreation of a Victorian village, complete with a train station, hotel, and mining operation. There is even a recreation of Victoria's chinatown from years past.

The museum also boasts amazing views of the city and harbor. During Christmastime they decorate the town in Christmas decor. It's very well done and worth going seeing.

There's also a great "First People's" exhibit with some amazing totem poles and canoes. This part of the museum is totally like stepping into the past. Like the Victorian part of the museum, it's an amazing immersion experience.

My husband and I have gone to the museum twice before. We recently went to see the Photo Exhibit that travels all around the world. It was very interesting. We find the certain exhibit are very well put together and this year we decided to get a year membership so we can take advantage all year around. I can’t wait for the Egyptian Exhibit coming soon!

We really enjoyed the Nature Photographer of the Year display. This was a seasonal display in its last few days. We then proceeded to the permanent First Nations of BC exhibit. Fascination and educational.

This is one of the best museums I have ever visited. One can stroll through time in an old gold mine, a 18th century Royal Navy ship, a beach scene, farmstead, an old town, a first nations settlement, and many more natural history galleries. There is also usually a themed visiting artifact collection. While you are visiting the museum, an added attraction is an Imax film for just a few dollars more.
