“Hotel Grand Pacific was Grand”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 March 2012

We reserved 2 rooms. We were on the 8th floor. Room 328 is on the front side of the hotel had a weird incidence where one of the lights didn't work and when my daughter & her friend returned at around midnight or so, the balcony sliding door was fully open & the light that wouldn't work was working. They swear they didn't leave the sliding window wide open & the light didn't work & was not on when they left. Weird. Has anyone else had any weird incidences? On the same floor my spouse & I reserved a king room and it was so small and at the back side of the hotel. The tv reception was so horrible we asked to be moved and got a room with 2 queens on the same floor on the side of the hotel which was a much bigger room. It is best to ask for a room at the front of the hotel & preferably 2 Queens. Couple of our lights
didn't work in our room also. The tub drain didn't work. To get to the pool you have to go thru a freezing cold parking lot. The pool & exercise facility is an actual gym that the facility let's locals use too so there are people who aren't staying @ the hotel using it. The hotel let's you leave your luggage in the lobby in a locked room & you can pick it up when ready to board the Clipper. I would stay again @ this hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel and reserve 2 queens (not king) as you can get a larger room. Also y...

Dear IslaAnne,

Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience at The Hotel Grand Pacific with our online community and with us.

I am so pleased that you indicated that you would stay with us again.

We did a lock read on your daughter's room. This tells us exactly who enters a room and when. We were quite were relieved that only your daughter and friend had accessed the room on the night in question. I was also pleased that we were able to find a room that better suited your needs. In the future please let us know of any room issues and we will fix the problem. Right Away!

If you stay with us again please ask the front desk for directions to the Victoria Athletic Club. All guests can access the club through hotel elevators and hallways and do not need to enter the parking lot. We are quite proud of our 10,000 square foot Athletic Club which features a fully equipped weight room, state of the art cardio equipment, a 60 metre lap pool as well as a variety of fitness classes including yoga.

I am delighted that you took advantage of our offer to store your luggage until you were ready to board the Clipper ferry. We are steps away from both the Clipper and the Coho Ferry Terminals and very close to both the float plane and helicopter services.

I hope to have the pleasure of having you back on future stays.

Kind Regards,
Emory Haines

I was at the GP for a conference and found the rooms to be clean and functional. Staff were courteous and helpful as well. The fitness facilities and conference amenities are some of the best at any hotel. Location on the harbour in Victoria is great too.

I've never found food in a hotel to be cheap and the GP has not changed that opinion. It is what it is. Neither good nor bad. Just an observation and if cost is an issue you might have selected another hotel anyways.

If you like excellent service, courteous staff and cleanliness this is the place to stay.
We stayed four nights this past weekend 03/07/2012 - 03/11/2012 for our wedding anniversary
We had a suite on the fourth floor overlooking the harbor and the ferry. it was spacious, comfortable and very clean. this is in part due to Dolores who is the maid on this floor. She made sure that we had everything, the sheets were crisp , white and pressed.
Chris in the Pacific Lounge is a great bar tender and waiter, after being in the lounge just one time, the next day we came in he had remembered our names and what we wanted on the sides with our order. Not too many hotels have staff that really care about how you are treated it is evident this hotel does.
We will come back again, in the past thirty years we always stayed at the Laurel Point. After this past weekend we will book again to stay at the Hotel Grand Pacific mainly because it is the staff that went the extra mile to make your stay comfortable.

Room Tip: Room 450 is nice right on the front of the hotel overlooking the harbor

The room itself was fine, overall. It was awesome to have a small balcony (in a partial harbour-view room) to let in fresh air.
Attention to smaller details could better align this place with all the glowing ratings on this site.
1. Lumpy pillows, lots of them mind you, but all were very stiff and uncomfortable.
2. TV remote was very finicky, at times would not work at all from any angle or distance...Most of tbe time only worked from close range to the TV.
3. Exhoribant prices in the Courtyard cafe: 3 bottled drinks (including water) cost $12...If only I'd known sooner that there's a 7-11 within walking distance!
4. Slow service in the Pacific restaurant. All we ordered was dessert; took forever to arrive at our table and the waitress was very stiff and formal, seemed annoyed that we weren't ordering full dinners.
5. Dessert Portions small as well (large plate though!). The chocolate 'cupcake' was way overpriced (approx. $10 for each tiny dessert). And when they offered two choices in water, either plain or sparkling, I didn't realize we'd be charged a fortune for going with the sparkling (it was San Pelligrino but we didn't find that out til the bill came).
6. Unsafe hot tub: This whirlpool is located in the healthclub on the downstairs level of the hotel. It was so full of bubbles (looked like someone had poured shampoo in!) that you couldn't see or feel the bottom when you got in. Twice I tripped not realizing that were more steps going into the bottom of this pool. There should be a warning sign to watch one's step on these well hidden stairs.
7. The hot tub too is very small and old looking, for a hotel that prides itself on quality offerings. When you first enter the pool area you are deceived into thinking there are two hot tubs, as there are two smaller pools in front of the main pool. What a disappointment when I stepped into the small pool closest to the main entrance and found it to be no warmer than the regular pool water. That pool would have made a nice, spacious hot tub, not like the cramped bubble pool I ended up in with the scary hidden steps.
This hotel is very conveniently located and a room with a balcony was a real treat. However, the above annoyances will make me think twice in the future, before choosing this place over other accommodations in the area.

Dear MMMSVancouver,

Thank you for sharing your concerns following your recent visit to The Hotel Grand Pacific.

Rest assured that we are prepared for the times when guests need a specific pillow and TV remotes act up. Although we generally get very good feedback on our pillows we have a variety of other pillows available and both a new pillow and and a new remote are only a phone call away. I apologize- we do check the TV remotes after every stay but sometimes the battery gets the better of us.

We are very price sensitive and a sandwich and bottled water can be had in the Courtyard Cafe on our concourse level for just over $10.00. This type of inexpensive and informal dining is not something that most of our competitors offer in Victoria. Additionally we have vending machines on the floors of the hotel that sell inexpensive pop and water.

I am sorry that you did not enjoy our house made Molten Chocolate Cake. We have consistently received rave reviews on it and our culinary team make it by hand every day. Certainly we will follow up with our staff who are trained to serve every item ordered quickly and in a polite manner.

I am sorry that a previous guest wore shampoo into the hot tub. Although we do not allow this it happens from time to time and it is unsightly. We always remove it as quickly as possible. At The Hotel Grand Pacific we welcome families and cater to even our youngest guests by providing a children's swimming area. The small pool that you refer to is often frequented by families who enjoy a safe shallow protected area to play with their children in the water.

I know that the online community and I appreciated your contribution.

I hope to have the privilege and pleasure of having you back for future stays.

Kind Regards,
Emory Haines

In that we often take the ferry to visit friends and family on the other side of Juan de Fuca, we love staying at this lovely hotel, its rooms bright, clean and well appointed, and the food in the restauant equally well done and presented. But better yet is that they have very reasonable overnight parking, meaning that we can be walk-on's on the ferry, returning the same or next day with ease.

Room Tip: We've stayed here twice and interestingly enough, both times in the same room! We always ask for...
