Owner description: This expansive beach offers fantastic picnicking opportunities, swimming, beach volleyball, or simply a panoramic view of Vancouver and the mountains. Spanish Banks tends to be a quieter beach which makes it very family-friendly.

If you follow the seaside pathway/bike trail from the foot of Burrard Street around Coal Harbor, Stanley Park, English Bay and across to Kitsilano - you are on your way, heading west, to Spanish Banks. The end of seaside pathway is approximately 9 km from Sunset Beach in downtown. Using a bicycle is the best method of travel. There is limited bus service to Locarno Beach - which will require about 1.5 km walk. The view of the City, North Shore, Howe Sound and Sunshine Coast are great rewards. From Jericho to Spanish Banks there are vast expanses of park land and fine sand beaches. During the summer there are concession stands where you can purchase fish and chips, burgers and refreshments.

Went there to hopefully have a swim but found that the tide was out and you needed to walk a long distance out of of the beach to get to the water. So unfortunately no swimming. However, this did not stop us having a great day. The beach is large and went on a Tuesday so there was not large crown there at all. We had plenty of space to enjoy a picnic, place some beach rugby and just relax and admire that scenery. You get a very nice view of downtown Vancouver and North Vancouver with the mountains powering in the back ground. Parking is free and there is loads of it. If you did not bring any food, there are two little kiosks offering basic meals and coffee. If you are looking to have a swim, I would recommend to have a look at the tidal charts so you can work out when the high tide is in.

Took an afternoon to sit at the beach read a book and enjoy the views. The parking was free once I found a spot. The park has vast green space with volleyball nets and picnic spots with BBQs. The tide when low provides a great place to walk out in shallow waters. The drift logs along the beach are great markers for belongings or to lean on when reading like I do. Very family friendly and community oriented.

huge beach and perfect for after-work family relaxation picnic. we've been on a weekday, and I can only imagine crowds of people on the week-end. but on a weekday evening the place is pretty empty. if you stay to watch sunset - it is truly worth it. stunning views of Vancouver island and Vancouver city.
