best beach for dog walking...just a great beach for clear sand, and least amount of seaweed, etc. good for boarding also. :D. picnics and festivals!

This is THE place for a picnic- on a sunny day in the summer we often meet up in the late afternoon and watch the sun go down to the west, north the mountains and east is downtown Vancouver. You can buy fish and chips there, better to go to Granville island or Pantheon on Broadway to pick up some tasty food, bring a blanket and some drink and you are there . There is no public alcohol consumption on the beach, it is patrolled, but if you are discreet, we have never had any issues with accompanying the picnic with a nice crisp Pinot Blanc from the okanagan. Bring a blanket and bathing suits and maybe a kite.

Spanish banks is a beautiful beach that has nice sandbars when the tide is out and tide pools to observe. There is good parking, picnic tables, concessions selling fish and chips etc. Just the best place to spend a sunny day in vancouver even in the winter walking the sandy beaches and trails there is awesome.

From my early years I always remembered longing for summer to come to spend days at the beach with my family. Mom would pack the lunch, Dad would load us up in the car and off we would drive to Spanish banks....long stretches of beach, and long stretches of grass. You could wade in the water and play in the sand...
As the years of passed it has since become a year round place for my husband and I...we walk the pathway along the ocean. Birdwatch the many species that inhabit to area.....stop in at one of the watering holes and enjoy a patio sip as we watch the boater pass and the seals frolic. Always something new to see and do, peacefull trails to explore or secluded spots to nestle down and relax and unwind. The beauty of Spanish banks is it is in the city and easy to get to and find parking, but its like being a million miles away and it is so quiet and restful....a wonder place to enjoy year after year.

This beach is the furthest from downtown as you travel west towards UBC. It is the quietest, cleanest and most peaceful beach in the city. The view looks across English Bay towards Hollyburn Mountain in West Vancouver. At low tide - the water receeds to expose a huge mud flat - you can walk out from shore. This is not a great location for swimming but kids will enjoy wading in the shallow waters and playing in the sand. There are concession stands and washrooms.
