The food at this restaurant is amazing, we love to go to the Schooner every time we're in Tofino. Unfortunately our garlic bread was overtoasted, to the point that it was a burnt crouton that would hurt to eat. You would think the server would take it back and give us a new one, but instead she decided to act as if nothing was wrong with the garlic bread and then blame it on the toaster when we insisted it was inedible. If your toasted makes all of the toast burnt like that, it's time to service it or get a new one. In the end she took back the bread, and brought us a new one that she charged us for when the bill came... It was unfortunate service, because the rest of the food is always amazing, I would recommend going to this restaurant, but hope not to have her as your server.

We expected a top notch casual restaurant for our anniversary dinner. Made reservations and noted it was an anniversary. Not a word was mentioned when we were there. A nearby table seemed to be friends or locals so the service they received was much better and more frequent and it was kind of obvious as we sat waiting at our table.

I’m being nice and giving 3 stars because of the covid situation but normal times would rate a 2. Every staff member was wearing a mask.

Arrived on time but were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. Waited 15 minutes after seating to be acknowledged by a server. Beer list was ok and cocktail list average, wine list good at least 2 1/2 times mark up.

Caesar salad was huge and good. They should probably mention it’s best for sharing! Spicy prawns were $16 for 5 prawns in a pretty average sauce of butter lime juice and Sambal Olek. I could reproduce for pennies at home.

Burger looked good but was basically raw in the middle, when this was pointed out much later in the service It was agreed yes it was very underdone we were offered “ something else” but by then no one else was eating so it was declined. Nothing else was offfered and no adjustment made to the bill. The “ signature dish” halibut stuffed with prawns crab and shrimp and Brie in a peppercorn brandy sauce was supposed to be amazing but did not translate as well. The halibut itself was cooked well which is sometimes tricky, the filling while delicious really just tasted of nice “seafood” but you could not discern the dungeness crab, side stipe shrimp used to justify the price. And the “ Brie” cheese inside just tasty creamy but it could have been cream cheese for all I knew. The brandy peppercorn sauce was ok - kind of odd and not at all what I expected. Worse yet were the “seasonAl summer vegetables” which consisted of two cherry tomatoes, 2 sprigs of pea shoots and frozen corn. And the basmati rice had mustard seeds and a weird Indian spice that did nit go AT ALL with the halibut and sauce, it was terrible actually and it was left along with the frozen corn. No questions were asked as to why only one Part of a nearly $40 entree was eaten.

Dessert we shared a creme brulee, the top was properly crunchy but a proper creme brûlée should be silky smooth and this one was sort of gritty . Not well executed.

All in all it was a pretty expensive meal for a non memorable anniversary.
We will not be back.

Was in Tofino for two weeks. Visit the Schooner 2 times. Tried both meat and fish. Excellent. Not the cheapest in town, but I can recommend.

We didn't have a reservation but on the restaurants advice (per phone) came early and were seated. Much of the menu was local seafood which was fresh and beautifully prepared. The staff, especially our waiter, were welcoming and friendly. If we had had more time, we definately would have returned to this restaurant.
