We stopped here for just one night on our way across BC. What a lovely respite!
The entire staff was warm and friendly and oozed hospitality. Cristina, who checked us out, did a great job on her very first check-out transaction!
The grounds are beautiful and the river setting so serene. We saw a beautiful sunset overlooking the river and then enjoyed a quiet few minutes on our porch the next morning before getting on the road. Paying a little extra for a riverside room is a must. The river view and the staff’s hospitality are what took my rating from a 3 to a 4.
We had dinner at the onsite restaurant. Our burger and chicken pot pie were just fine. Nothing extraordinary but both tasty enough that we were pleased we hadn’t chosen to drive into Kamloops to find a restaurant.
The building is a little worn. It is exceptionally clean but its age is apparent. The room was quiet and comfortable; a mini-fridge would have been a wonderful touch for our on-the-road snacks. The bathroom was a bit awkward, with a very low, outdated vanity that made my back hurt to bend over. It was fine for a one-night stay but a longer stay would have proved challenging. I did appreciate all the counter space, though.
For an off-the-beaten-path, non-chain-hotel experience in a setting full of character and friendliness, the South Thompson Inn is definitely recommended.More
