We stayed at the Overlander for one night and went into Jasper to hike the next day. We had a mountain view room which was spectacular. The view is truly breathtaking, and the room's decor is very warm and comfortable. It feels less like a "hotel room" and more like a "room" without a TV- which is a good thing in my books. There is internet in the rooms but since it's in the backcountry a bit there are some delays and spikes in connectivity. City folk beware: A getaway in the mountains means sacrificing your technological addictions! That's the purpose of such a beautiful getaway and it definitely served its purpose for us. We had a very quiet, romantic, and "outdoorsy" experience. There is a lot of hiking in the area. The service (from the front desk guy who booked us in to the chef and waitress at the restaurant) were all very accommodating and polite.

One thing- it is near the highway and there is some traffic noise. Besides traffic noise, there seemed to be quads or power tools running late into the night. I'm not sure what it was but it was a bit obnoxious.

We had a very delicious meal at the restaurant that was well worth the price. The scallops, by the way, were perfect! We took a couple of hours to enjoy our food and wine and to enjoy the experience of the dining room. There were a few other couples in the restaurant at the same time. We were all having a great time- or most of us were. Then this woman very loudly, rudely sent her food back. She basically had a tantrum in the restaurant and yelled "You call this a pork loin!? It's a pork chop! You call this curry!? It's barbecue sauce!" I thought she must have been drunk, because that' the only excuse for her behaviour I can come up with. She told the waitress that she was with the food network and was going to give the restaurant a poor rating- the man she was with chuckled when she said that and I wouldn't have believed it anyway because I should hope that the Food Network wouldn't hire someone who would represent them so poorly. She caused a scene that quieted the whole room for several minutes. She stormed out of the place after verbally abusing (loudly) the chef and the waitress. When they left, the tension was still present. I think that everyone else in the room had a lovely time at the Overlander except for that little glitch. Yes, I said glitch.

This has been my second stay at the Overlander and both times the food has been top notch along with the friendly courteous service.
Lucious was our waiter and bartender and is very friendly and entertaining...he made our evening even more enjoyable.
The accomodations are lovely and the area itself is very quiet and relaxing.
There are no TV's or radios so you can enjoy a quiet peaceful evening away from the hussle and bussle of everyday life.
The fireplace in the lobby is the perfect place to have a cocktail after dinner and relax listening to the crackle of the wood fireplace.

Our group of 4 stayed here in 2 cabins for 2 nights. Each cabin had 2 queen beds and a fireplace, cabins are basic, but are very clean, and are a good size, plenty of room for luggage, and there is a small seperate room off the bedroom which has a desk and coffee maker. Bathroom is very small but, it is nice and modern. The cabins do not have tv, phone, wifi or a fridge. The area is beautiful and quiet, there are lots of decks and sitting areas were you can sit and enjoy the mountain view. We dined at their restaurant on 1 night and the food was delicious, we each had 3 courses and each was delicous. It cost about $350 for 4 people icluding alcohol, waitress was lovely and attentive. Hotel is 15min drive to hinton and about 45min to jasper. The only cons were, that although they had free wifi in the lobby the signal was weak and connection kept dropping out. also selection at breakfast was limited, i would have liked more variety. Also at dinner they put the tip onto the bill, although i always tip i would like to be given the option to decide. Overall a wonderful stay and we all would have liked to stay longer.

We stayed for two nights over the long weekend. Hotel was full, but we still felt we were alone. Dinner was superb and a great value. Service was outstanding. Stayed in the the actual lodge with a mountain view (highly recommend the extra cost)

This hotel is a gem, great building of log construction, well maintained with a great restaurant facility (the only one around)
The hotel advetises its location as JASPER EAST Alberta when in fact it is located in Hinton Alberta about one hour's drive from Jasper.
We probably would not have selected this hotel had we realised that it was that far from Jasper,it took us out of way as we were travelling on to Kamloops the next morning,it added 2 hours of driving time to our trip.
We enjoyed the facility but found the location too distant and isolated, the rate somewhat excessive..The restaurant is first class.

Thank you for your review and we're happy you enjoyed your stay here. There has been a lot of confusion lately about our location and I would like to provide some clarification. We are located in Jasper East which neither in the townsite of Jasper or the townsite of Hinton. It is at the East edge of the Jasper National Park just past the East park gates on Highway 16. The lodge and our accommodations are completely on their own with a handful of private summer homes and we are surrounded by mountains and forest. The drive from the Jasper townsite is 50 KM and is through the Jasper National Park. There is a high concentration of wildlife (not guaranteed you will see them but likely), forest, mountains, rivers and lakes. I have done the drive everyday for years and it still amazes me. If you choose to stay with us then you will have to drive to get to Jasper. The drive you will do though might be the exact reason you came to the park in the first place, to see the natural beauty of the Canadian Rockies. I hope that helps and if you have any questions please call us and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.
