Owner description: From the splendor of the Rocky Mountains to the heart of Destination Africa, The Calgary Zoo takes you to see almost 900 animals from around the world. Trek through the gorilla’s rainforest, safari over the Savannah to watch the hippos swim, or climb the Canadian Wilds to see a grizzly bear. Cool off and get beak to nose with 4 species of penguins in our popular Penguin Plunge or visit endangered red pandas and amur tigers in Eurasia! Wind down your trip with a walk through our fragrant Dorothy Harvie Gardens or sit with the butterflies in ENMAX Conservatory. You'll love knowing that every visit helps protect endangered animals at home and in the wild. NEW in 2017 is the unique and immersive permanent Land of Lemurs exhibit. A really big zoo it is a half day activity, lots to see there from the march of the penguins to rare snow leopards and the amazing pandas. Its a family attraction, wonderful for kids to learn about nature.

It's not Toronto or San Diego, but the Calgary Zoo is easily a full day of fun and learning. The park has a constant flow of interactive presentations and guided learning opportunities, the animal habitats are large and well designed, and the staff are always incredibly friendly and helpful.
Pro Tip 1: Pack food. The zoo only sells overpriced food. Always pack your main food and keep purchases to small treats or you can blow a lot of cash quickly.
Pro Tip 2: Don't be afraid to stop almost any staff member to ask questions. We have even taken our daughter for the purpose of interviewing staff about animal questions she prepared ahead of time. The staff have always been 100% helpful and enthusiastic to share their knowledge.
Pro Tip 3: If you can do it, plan to go to the zoo during a weekday while school is in session, especially if it is a bit overcast or drizzly. Doing so will tend to give you fewer crowds to contend with. On the other hand, holidays and hot sunny weather tend to mean special activities will be taking place.
Last thing: if you live in Calgary and plan to attend more than twice in a year, buy the pass. If you have family in Calgary or yoy often visit friends in Calgary, and you all go to the zoo more than twice in a year, consider guest passes. For just a little extra cash, a single adult pass can be attached to guest passes that are transferable instead of being locked to a specific individual.
Summary: The zoo is great for anyone, especially if you have young kids. If you have never been there, you should try it.

Had a family outing to the Calgary Zoo. It was a nice outing. The only issue was the price to rent a mobility scooter. You can get them at any mall for free but the zoo charges $25. to rent one.

The Calgary zoo is always a wonderful experience every time we go. The exhibits are interesting and the animals are always a delight to watch and is great fun for the whole family. Plan on spending a whole day as there is lots to see and do. Would recommend this venue to everyone, young and old.
