Breathtaking Luxury Hotel

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Jan 2013
We just returned from three nights at the Chateau which included New Years Eve. This place isn't cheap, but it is luxurious. Standard rooms are small, but not an issue. We opted for the mountain view room which was breathtaking. I'm sure the lake view would have been even more so, but in the winter the sun comes up late and it sets early, so unless you're spending the day in your room (hope not!) it made no difference. Plus, the view is still amazing. We wanted to spend the extra money on other hotel amenities, which we did. We enjoyed massages in the spa, had a great dinner in the Fairview Dining Room (tip: it's dark early, so maybe go for lunch instead to get the view). On New Years Eve we spent the day and evening at the ski hill, but returned to a classy and fun party near the lobby. The piano player they had was phenomenal and everyone was having lots of fun. The following day we enjoyed a fantastic New Years Day brunch. I don't think I've ever had a more expensive brunch (without booze) but we wanted to enjoy ourselves and the Fairmont didn't let us down. We had a great window seat overlooking the lake/mountains and the food was nothing short of amazing. I'd recommend joining the President's Club -- it's free and you get free wi-fi for joining and a discount in the spa. There's a free shuttle that runs every 20 minutes to the ski hill and while we didn't use it, we would rent the skis from the hotel in the future to avoid the lineups. All in, an expensive but glorious visit to the Chateau. Highly recommend this treat to anyone and everyone. The mountains are incredible.

We only had one night here but had a Lake View Room and could not believe the view! Pictures cannot do justice and how can you really explain the beauty of the scenery to anyone who has not experienced it. The staff were very helpful. It was New Year's Eve. We went on a sleigh ride at 4 pm. Even though blankets were provided it was very cold. The hotel is magnificient. We had lunch in the deli and had a lovely big bowl of minestrone soup! Went down very well. We had breakfast from the deli also. GCereals, hot oats, fresh fruit, and all of the usual bagels and sweets that we have become used to seein but give them a wide berth. We had dinner in Poppy which is the brasserie overlooking the lake. Food was delicious, service was impeccable! We retired around 10.30, not being too into late night revellery, and the hotel was quiet though there were a lot of activities going on. We slept in late and had our breakfast from the deli before continuing on our journey.

Room tip: Ask for a lake view room.

I have always seen the pictures of this hotel but until you have been there you can never truly appreciate just how breatktaking the hotel and location is.
Hotel is big and set right on the lake, the rooms are great and comfy and offer all you really need.
There is a stables right next to the hotel where you can pay to ride on horseback up the mountain which I would recomend people do as it truly is an experience like no other, just wrap uo warm!

Thank you very much for posting your review! No matter how many times I see it, the view of the glacier and lake never ceases to amaze me. I'm please you got a chance to experience Brewster Stables - they've been in that location about as long as the hotel's been here! We hope to see you again.

Warm Regards,

Our son and daughter in law were attending their work Christmas party at the Chateau and were asked to come along and babysit our little grandson. Lake Louise is truly a jewel in the Canadian rockies. We live in Calgary, so the 2 hour drive was easy and relaxing on a beautiful snowy winter morning. (Make sure you have a vehicle with snow tires!!!) We have never actually stayed at the Chateau before, so we were surprised to find out you have to pay $20 for parking even if you are a guest of the hotel. So many people just go for a visit and do some shopping that the parking lots are packed. There is free parking across the road if you want to walk, but too far to carry luggage through the snow. The rooms are very old, but well renovated. Lovely bathroom and bed is top grade. Flat screen TV, but no free internet. We spent the afternoon shopping in the many upscale shops. We had our grandbaby for dinner, so we opted to sit in the pub overlooking Lake Louise and have some pub food. Too bad they didn't have a very large menu, but we were happy that they let us in with baby. Pretty pricey although the quality was excellent.
Good thing we brought our playpen from home because the crib provided was very old with a thin thin mattress.
The following morning we were treated to a group breakfast buffet provided by our son and daughter in laws company. Wow is all I can say. That was the best breakfast buffet every!!!!
On a side note we all came down with a bad case of Norwalk flu, I am sure from all the breakfast hugging and hand shaking and transferring of baby from person to person. Hope this was handled by the hotel.

Room tip: Ask for a room facing the lake. Every room has a mountain view, but we were facing the parking lot. Still gorgeous.

Stayed at hotel for 1 night on our honeymoon on Dec 21. As we arrived, we were amazed that we were actually at the hotel and not viewing it on a holiday tv program back home.

Brendon at check-in was courteous and professional. Upon knowing we were there on our honeymoon, he kindly provided us a complimentary room upgrade. In fact he gave us two upgrade options. To assist with our decision, he himself, showed us the two rooms and we elected to choose the deluxe king room on the fifth floor (501) that faced Lake Louise. The other room was a junior suite also facing Lake Louise on the 8th floor. Even though the suite had more floor space and had 3 standard windows facing the lake, I believe the deluxe room 501 was better. Why?. Firstly the view. It was a corner room and windows were huge. They were two large windows that were about 1.7metres in height and it spanned from one end of he room to the other. The other difference was the deluxe room had a smaller lounge area but still large enough to use for in room dining and to walk around room.

Customer service: we dined at the saloon for lunch and for dinner. Quality of food was very good and he menu selection was very large. As a menu, there was nothing fancy on the menu at fancy prices. This is a compliment. It gives holiday goers the opportunity to eat good quality food at reasonable prices. Apart from the saloon, there were a couple of other dining options at the hotel.

On check on our las morning, I happened to severely strain my calf by just walking down a stair outside the hotel. At the time I thought the calf was torn. I limped to lobby where reception called a medic to aid me. The calf was properly strapped with ice and I was provided crutches. Our following hotel stay was at the fairmont banff so the hotel knew the crutches would not go missing. Having immediate medical treatment at lake louise would go a long way into accelerated recovery.

The hotel has a lot of shopping options. A lot means about 15. Ranging from inexpensive souvenirs to jewellery and art work at king and queen prices, it will accommodate all budgets.

Location: It would be easy to combine the hotel with its location as the ultimate hotel. I will say that the quality of hotel and its position facing the lake, won't be beaten. if staying at lake louise, stay at this hotel as it is the only hotel with a direct view of the lake. Awesome in winter as complete lake is frozen over. Do what I did and walk on the lake. A somewhat scary but exiting feeling.

In summary, if this isn't on your bucket list of hotels and locations, make it so, as this is truly a wonderful experience.

Room tip: Rooms facing lake are a must. Higher floors would also be an advantage.

We were booked on a Brewster Tour from Jasper to Calgary and were recommended by our local travel agent to stay at the Fairmont Chateau rather than the standard options offered by Brewster. It had to have been the very best decision of our 3 week trip through BC & Alberta.

When we arrived, we went in the President's line to check-in and were immediately upgraded to a one bedroom suite. It was the most luxurious room we stayed in on our journey with an excellent view of Lake Louise.

It took a bit of getting used to how to navigate our way from our room on the third floor to downstairs, but. apart from that, it was a memorable stay. My only regret was that we stayed for just the one night.

If we go back to Canada, the one place I would want to go back to would be the Fairmont Chateau, Lake Louise.
