“Best Holiday House in France I've stayed in”
Reviewed 6 August 2012 for a stay in June 2012

I have rented Holiday homes in France for over 10 years and this house gets a gold star - so much so that for the first time ever I've booked again for next year. The house itself is great - comfortable bedrooms and living room, (which we did, for once, use one evening when it was too wet to sit outside), 2 shower rooms and a large, well equipped and sunny kitchen. However the outside space is to die for - a terrace and garden overlooking the Luberon mountains. The views are stunning, sunsets are fantastic and after dark in addition to a sky full of stars, you can see the twinkling lights of the perched medieval towns and villages that you have probably visited in the day-time - Roussillon, Lacoste, and Gordes amongst others and even fireworks displays from miles away.
The house is conveniently located for visiting the whole of the Vaucluse area of Provence and the southern Rhone wine region - Gigondas, Beaume de Venise, Vacqueras aren't far away. Caseneuve has no shops but does have a really good restaurant (Le Sanglier Parasseux) which you need to book as it seems to be full at every sitting but Apt is just down the road and has a fantastic saturday market. In fact there are markets everywhere selling the fresh fruit (melons in particular) and vegetables of the area, known as the garden of France and lovely local cheeses, olives, tapenades and pates de fruits etc etc. Of course there is provencal wiine available everywhere.
Jean Pierre and Helene who own the house are very welcoming and extremely helpful and we were invited to visit Jean Pierre's studio to see the incredible mosaic tables he makes.
If you're planning a visit to this region of France I would highly recommendyou try and book Maison Olive.

Liked best: Outside space and views
Liked least: Not a problem for us but it is necessary to carry luggage up a steepish path then steps from road to house but that is the nature of medieval village properties

“Awesome!”
Reviewed 23 July 2012 for a stay in July 2012

We arrived and were met by Jean-Pierre who gave us the key and showed us around the apartment. When we walked in, our first words were, "what a view!" The terrace looks out over the valley and in the distance one can see the lavender fields, along with an amazing sunset.

The apartment was perfect for the four of us. Each bedroom (3 bedrooms and 2 baths) had two sets of towels waiting for us, along with small bottles of shampoo and conditioner. The upstairs bedrooms face east and west, respectively, and there are shutters to follow the sun and keep the apartment, with its thick walls, cool.

The kitchen had a dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, stove and refrigerator and was well stocked with plenty of dishes and flatware, cookware and kitchen linens.

I would advise stopping in Apt at the grocery for supplies for immediate meals, as there is no grocery in Caseneuve. However, there is an excellent restaurant immediately as you reach the village.

We can't say enough about Jean-Pierre and his hospitality. Since he lives there in the village, should you need advice on what to do or where to visit, he's there to help.

We would recommend this rental without any hesitation whatsoever. Pictures don't do it justice.

“Best view in the Luberon”

For a holiday in a lovely ancient house next to the castle in the centre of a tiny tourist free hill village, with sunset views west down the Luberon from Apt to Avignon, then this is the place to go. The village of Caseneuve is as genuine as any in Provence, but without the souvenir shops and 'art' galleries of the better known over-renovated hill villages. The village has no shops, but instead the local baker and butcher visit every couple of days. But you have to be quick or the local residents will get there first! For other shops there is the pretty town of Apt only 10km down the hill. The only concession to visitors to the village is the wonderful Le Sanglier Paresseux restaurant where we had a memorable meal.

The accommodation is a house on three levels, adjoining the home of Jean-Pierre and Helene, the friendly and helpful owners. There are two good sized double bedrooms with a bathroom on the top floor, with extensive views into the rising and setting sun. On the second level is a third bedroom with two bunks and a big bathroom, a comfortable lounge room with WiFi (connected better to Apple than pc), tv, DVD and music player, and a big fireplace. The lounge room leads in to a properly equipped kitchen with everything you would need to make real meals. A kitchen with sharp knives is a serious kitchen! Both kitchen and lounge lead out onto a balcony with soaring and unobstructed views across the village rooftops and west down the Luberon valley. At night the lights of Apt, Rousillon, Gordes and Cavaillon twinkle in the distance. A more perfect spot to watch the sun go down over a glass of local wine could not be imagined. Steps lead from the balcony down to another generous open area with a bbq, loungers, table and chairs for outdoor eating, all with the same amazing views.

Booking this accommodation was done directly and without fuss with owners Jean-Pierre and Helene, through exchange of emails and bank transfer of a deposit. The balance of the rent was paid in cash on arrival. There is a small extra payment for a cleaner at the end of the rental period. We would have preferred to pay with credit card to avoid excessive bank transfer fees and carrying large amounts of cash.

While it is not possible to park directly outside the door, safe off street parking is available just 50m up the road.

This was our first holiday in the Luberon and much of the credit for our enjoyment of our stay came from the wonderful accommodation and friendly owners. We would love to return.
