“Wonderful Little Cottage”
Reviewed 20 July 2018 for a stay in July 2018

The Retreat is small but beautifully formed. We had a wonderful week there and enjoyed the lovely view from the living room, lots of the suggested walks and trips to the many attractions which are in easy reach. The kitchen and wet room were both very successful and we slept well. Elaine and Ian gave us a most useful welcome pack and the local pubs had excellent food when we couldn't be bothered to cook. It was perfect.

“The perfect retreat!”
Reviewed 18 April 2018 for a stay in April 2018

Thank you Ian and Elaine for a superb weekend in your wonderful cottage. The property is so well appointed and everything is of a high quality. It is immaculate, cosy and set in a delightful village. Everyone was friendly. Such a great base - as near to some great attractions and lovely walks. We are certainly going to stay again! Highly recommended.

“Delightful country cottage”

We have just returned from a 3 night 'Retreat' for our first anniversary and didn't want to leave! It is a beautifully renovated, quirky upside down cottage with fabulous views. Everything is finished to perfection and there wasn't anything that wasn't provided. We had planned on visiting Matlock but after arriving on friday, we didn't use the car again. The information pack in the cottage has some detailed walks in it of which we did two, despite a bit of little drizzle (and a whole lot of mud!) The views you get on your way round are just beautiful. We ate at the two local pubs 'The Black Swan' and 'The Old Poet's' and both were lovely. The live band on the friday was great and the locals were very friendly. Our hosts, Ian and Elaine couldn't have been more accomodating. Full of information and leaving a lovely welcome pack on arrival. You could spend hours just watching the birds and squirrels feasting on their seeds and nuts from the 6 feeders on the tree in the garden of Ian and Elaine's house, all from the comfort of the sitting room. It really is a little bit of heaven away from the hustle and bustle of city life. We will definitely be recommending to family and friends and will be back for our second anniversary (if we can wait that long!)

Had a smashing time. Lovely spot and friendly owners. Good attention to detail and spotlessly clean. I heartily recommend 'The Retreat'.

“Charming country cottage”
Reviewed 1 November 2017 for a stay in October 2017

Booked this cottage for a long weekend, and what a delightful place it is.
The cottage is finished to the highest standard and is very comfortable, we especially enjoyed the welcome pack left for us by the owners Elaine and Ian.
Ashover itself is a pretty little country village.
It boasts 3 pubs which all serve food, although be aware that only the poets corner serves food on a Sunday night and then it mainly Curry.
There is also a butchers, post office general dealers, and tuck shop.
The surrounding area is really beautiful, and there are loads of walks, of which there are details in the cottage
