“Fabulous house ensured fantastic family get together”
Reviewed 24 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

We have returned from an amazing 5 night stay at this wonderful house.
From the moment we arrived we felt completely at home - we all wished it could have been our home!!
We had planned the holiday to see daughter and son from our families who were making a whistle stop return to the UK fromAustralia, enroute to a wedding in Tuscany. We booked the house so that all families could all be together from different parts of the UK and to allow those who were working to still be able to join in at the weekend.
This lovely house has 8 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms which provided privacy as well as being part of the bigger group.
The kitchen was extremely well equipped, Sky TV in all downstairs rooms, local pub, playing fields so we could break from watching the Euros to playing a bit of our own challenge match - making sure we sky plussed the Saturday afternoon match to catch up later!!
Garden was wonderful and tranquil, but the best part is the magnificent conservatory dining room. At one point during our stay we had 14 of us at meal times and the dining table was more than adequate for all our needs and is such a perfect room.
Ideal location, supermarkets a few miles away in either direction and bicycle hire for the Minifold Way within a short walk (15 minutes).

A wonderful break with lovely family and friends made more comfortable and enjoyable in such a lovely house.

“Fantastic holiday home for a family break.”
Reviewed 22 June 2016 for a stay in May 2016

A house with real character, a garden providing interest for all the children, ages 7-12, and lovely relaxation for the adults. Kitchen well equipped, 3 fridges and a freezer. The conservatory is amazing, a brilliant room for family meals. Close to beautiful Dove dale. Bike hire in the village, the Manifold trail is a great ride for all the family.

“Great place for a fab weekend with friends”
Reviewed 17 May 2016 for a stay in May 2016

Had fantastic weekend with friends for my birthday. Spacious surroundings, excellent facilities and what a way to start the day having breakfast with the sun pouring in through a pretty amazing conservatory! Great meal at the crown - made to feel very welcome. Would definitely return!

This is a fantastic place to stay with great paths leading to the beauty of the Peak a few yards from the front door. The local village pub Ye Olde Crown is pretty good - nice beer and steak with a lively darts room where you can try your hand against the locals.

Recommended activity is a 17 mile loop through Dovedale with a hearty mid-walk lunch at the excellent gastropub the George at Alstonefield before returning home via the Manifold Trail. Make sure you book at the George as it is very popular.

Note that although Trip Advisor says six bedrooms there are in fact seven, as an ancillary snug on the ground floor makes for a decent bedroom well away from the heart of the house. Good kitchen and dining room for group dinners. There is an annex which adds an eighth bedroom if required (bunk beds).

TV - amazingly - has all the sports channels!

The landlady Helen is very nice and gets back to you within 24 hours.

Very quick trip (around 2hrs) from London via fast train to Stoke then 35 minute transfer by cab.

Hope to be back!

“One of the best weekends of my life!!”
Reviewed 8 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

I was there for my hen party, I didn't even know where I was headed while driving through the countryside.
There were 15 of us all together from different places around the country.
My friend Jo had organised the cottage & our activities which ranged from chocolate making to cocktail making & games.
Old Beams was able to cater for all of us to sleep in clean beds (some sharing) in doubles & one bunk bed, all have bathrooms attached, some have huge baths, all have showers & some are jet showers.
There was one large kitchen-dining room with everything needed for meal times & a large oven to use. the room was big enough for us all to gather in at meal times & a huge conservatory attached with decorative painted walls of play scenes which has ceiling fans if it gets hot (look out for the owls eyes). The conservatory has some lovely plants growing inside that I was able to water while there with a watering can & tap set up along the back of it. The purple flowered clematis is beautiful climbing over the conservatory in the same view as the garden.
The garden is really long with grass, has a water feature, garden furniture & a small childrens play area attached.
The whole place is decorated very tastefully in keeping with the time that I think the cottage was built around.
If you play the piano (non of us could) there's one in the entrance hall area which sounded great to a novice :)
There are TVs in the bedrooms & a main TV room with huge sofas & an open fire which is another great area to gather.
Games are stacked up on a shelf in the dining room which is great if the weather keeps you in.
There is a small shop in walking distance which covers the basics which is just after a very friendly pub 'Ye Old Crowne' with outside seating which is a bit of a sun trap (worth a visit or 2). They were very welcoming to a large group of giggling hens such as ourselves, I didn't expect them to be so nice at all.
While walking around we saw sheep, cows & gorgeous bright white chickens.
We have spoke of a yearly reunion as everyone enjoyed the experience so much, beautiful place with magical feeling décor.
Perfect for our needs, thank you :)
