We wanted a mini break in The Peak District, but as a large family of 7 budget is always an issue. We usually camp but felt that the effort for just one night wasn't worth it.
The solution a basic camping barn! As we are used to tenting it so this was luxury! A stove in the kitchen made the evening a lovely affair, indoor toilet, solid and stable picnic benches, and sturdy work surface for putting our gas stove on,
Middle of November, life in a stone barn is cold, there's no hiding it but we had a better shelter than our tent and the stove was great at warming us up whilst we had a technology free evening of family fun, The kids ran around upstairs, before settling down for a good sleep.
We only booked for the seven of us so we always ran the risk of having others join us, but we were told we were the only booking when we picked up the keys.
The kitchen may have a been a bit of a squeeze had there been full occupancy, if different parties chose to cook at the same time but you could certainly fit 12 in to eat at the tables.
A great first time experience for us and one we will recommend to others as well as repeat for ourselves!
PS We did go for a quick visit to the local pub at Wetton, The Royal Oak who were happy for the children to go in, and the publican was most friendly. I almost wished we'd had the budget to eat there! instead a round of J2Os for the children was our evening treat!
