“We didn't want to leave!”
Reviewed 14 August 2017 for a stay in June 2017

We thoroughly enjoyed exploring tranquil Issigeac and the beautiful countryside surrounding it. Maison de la Paix is wonderfully central and, best of all, you can (almost) literally roll out of bed and into a local boulangerie for delicious croissants and baguettes.

This home is comfortable, clean, spacious and exquisitely decorated. The open plan kitchen and lounge, plus garden dining area, are perfect for a family getaway. We enjoyed dining alfresco thanks to the long summer evenings.

The hosts provide an excellent guidebook with advice on what to do (and not do) in Issigeac and surrounds. During our stay, we paddled on the Dordogne river, viewed 15,000 year-old cave art and picked up regional produce from open markets. We really enjoyed preparing meals with our market finds in the Maison's well-equipped kitchen.

When it was time to leave, we did so very reluctantly. We have fallen in love with the Maison - and the Dordogne - and can't wait to visit for longer in the future.

So glad you enjoyed your stay so much and got to do so many things! Must have been a real privilege to see the original 15,000 year old rock art on your cave trip - well worth the early morning wake-up call no doubt! à bientôt, John & Louise

“Our second stay...just as amazing as our first”

We returned a year after our first stay for a repeat experience and the same 5 star review as last year applies!! We actually started to feel a little bit special when the owners of the Le Relais de l'Ancienne Gare (our absolute favourite restaurant) greeted us with French gusto on our arrival and even Christian at the local bar seemed to recognize us.

So the Maison is as wonderful as ever. Clean, comfortable, spacious and convenient and the area of Issigeac and surrounds speaks for itself. We spent many happy hours cycling around this most beautiful countryside and returning to the Maison for a rest and cocktail before wandering around this ageless village.

We have been fortunate to have travelled to many parts of the world but I have to say I am not sure if this little corner of France can be beat. We are smitten and will try our best to return once more.

Kudos to John and Louise for having the vision to invest in this paradise and thanks for sharing it :)

So great to have you back again and really pleased to hear that you enjoyed yourselves so much. Once again you have been the perfect guests and it is an absolute pleasure to share 'our little bit of paradise' with you.
All the best and hope Canada's not too cold after the lovely early spring weather you enjoyed in France.

It's hard to review perfection. It's hard to say more than the other reviewers have already said.

Honestly, everything was perfect, generous, comfortable, stylish, warm, well-thought out. The photos are accurate, but maybe don't even do it justice?

Comfy bed, crisp linens, a fully stocked kitchen for cooking, wine upon arrival, maps, a medieval village, bakery, and Sunday market right outside your door. Easy free parking. Hiking trails nearby, as well as the town of bergerac and many winery tasting options to study the wines of the region.

The regional food? Duck, duck, goose! Enough to get your fill for the next year.

Kind, thoughtful and helpful owners and the lovely Brenda to check us in.

It doesn't get better than Maison de la Paix. We were just 2 but the house is generously proportioned to be comfy for 8.

Thank you John, Louise, and Brenda, for offering such a breathtaking respite! We loved it!

Hope to see you in California some day!

If you want a quiet luxurious holiday in small town France then consider this maison. Extremely well appointed dwelling in a village of about 800 people but also within very easy reach of larger towns.
Not a lot of English spoken in the local shops and restaurants but everyone was more than helpful and gracious to our party.
Great kitchen and bathrooms and a very generous outdoor lounging area.
Our house manager was very friendly and gave us great information about the area.
Having a small bakery about 30 yards from our front door was a real treat in the mornings for breakfast.
Local markets rotate daily through the the small surrounding towns and are not to be missed for the superb fruit and vegetable etc. selections.
The home owner readily communicates and was a pleasure to work with.
Thank you for the use of your home!
