Stayed for 2 nights last weekend and had a lovely weekend. We arrived Fri eve and the cottage was warm, cosy and welcoming. Very well equipped. It has so much character and was just what we were looking for. Great location for a walking weekend.
We booked to stay the same day due to issues with a previous holiday rental. The owners were great and really understanding. We felt very relaxed and comfortable staying at Owslow Cottage and our dogs loved it too. Great location for dog walks, bike rides and trips out. Some lovely local pubs nearby too. Would certainly recommend and may even stay again in the future.
We arrived at 2pm on Friday afternoon and parked up and went for a walk down to the reservoir which is 10mins walk away through the owners fields. The owner bumped into us as we were deciding where to go and he directed us through his fields and made it very easy to get to the lake! He had a lot of local knowledge so if you ever need to know where to go, just ask! They are both very accommodating and super friendly which was brilliant.
We went to the Rising Sun pub in Middleton on the Friday night which is a 5min drive away but had sky sports for the football! Food was very good there. The Knockerdown pub was a short walk away.
The cottage was beautiful. The front door is hidden away which is a quirky touch, but the inside was very good, had everything we needed! The main bedroom was huuuge! With beautiful views over the farmyard and the reservoir! It's in a beautiful location with walks off everywhere and the Lake is a day of a walk, it's massive! They have a restaurant, water sports, bike hire and all sorts of activities to do there if walking isn't your cup of tea.
The cottage would be great for little kids too as they will accompany you to feed llamas and sheep when they are lambing.
Overall we had a really nice weekend and felt at home for the 3 days we were there. Thanks for a great weekend!
My family and I stayed at Owslow Cottage for 5 nights. We received a very warm welcome from Dave when we arrived and always felt that he was there if we needed anything but he also left us to our own devices as he appreciated we were on holiday. The cottage was a lovely and spacious which was very well equipped for every eventuality. It was very clean and tidy and the welcome pack of wine and crisps was a lovely little touch. It was great to have a dishwasher and washing machine if you wanted to use it as well. The beds were all very clean and comfortable. The owners were also very accommodating as I had previously asked if I could receive a grocery delivery shop there which they had agreed too.
It was lovely returning from a busy day in the local area to be able to sit at the front of the cottage which was very peaceful and had a fantastic view over Carslington Water. Dave had said our children were allowed to use the trampoline in the garden which our children loved and really appreciated. One afternoon we were invited to go and feed the Llamas on the farm which was also a brilliant experience. There are dogs on the farm which my daughter absolutely loved and wanted to bring one of them home!
This farm is a working farm. It was great to be able to watch how the farm runs even if this did involve being woken up early by a huge flock of sheep that were being split from their mothers!!
My only criticism would be the owners young children were away for the first few days, but when they returned they were up and playing outside the cottage early in the morning which I do appreciate being a mum myself, bit it did actually wake us up which wasn’t great when you are on holiday and your children are a bit older now.
