We went on a night excursion with Lalo Eco Tours to the lagoon at night to witness the phosphorescent glow that occurs during the new and old moon. Basically, the lagoon fills up with a type of plankton that contains chloroform and a blue substance which gives off a glow when disturbed by currents. It's an amazing site to see because you can see the water glowing with a green light everywhere the boat would drive. The boat then stops and everybody jumps into the super warm waters of the lagoon to swim amongst the plankton. It's very dark on the water and serene but when you start swimming you see a green glow wherever the water is disturbed. When you pull your hand out of the water little green droplets fall from your skin and light up like a little shower of sparkles. It was absolutely an amazing phenonmenon to see and was definitely the highlight of our trip. I've heard it's even more amazing if you bring a snorkel and mask so you might want to do that as well. Just be sure to check with the tour guide to make sure the phenonmenon is occurring the night you want to go.
