Visited Banyan tree Phuket hotel for a short 2 night stay before our trip to Samui island. Hotel atmosphere is absolutely relaxing - nothing makes you disappointed or annoyed. I would like note exceptional service provided at each minute since check-in till check-out, well-thought-out villas layout and especially comfortable giant bed. The villas are the nicest I’ve ever been in all my FHR experience.
1. Rooms absolutely stunning and lovely. Our villa was truly amazing. (Beware of slippery tiles and use the slippers after the pool) I am obsessed with the room. The small attention to details and the luxury of it all. We had the 2 room villa, and then 2 other 1 bedroom villas. This resort was the nicest FHR from Amex we have been to. Marshall speakers, fruit and tea, bath salts for the outdoor bathtub. Stunning
2. Breakfast was divine and there was something for everyone, I mostly ate from the southern Thai section because it was food that I crave and don’t normally get.
3. It’s a bit far out from the city city but lots of amenities close by. Large Irish pub and lots of shopping.
4. Checkin and check out was an absolute disaster. It’s the downgrade of the star. I don’t know why it needs to be this way. I asked several times for towels so we could swim while waiting because it was so long. While everyone was hearing me they were definitely not listening to what I had to say.
5. When you call for a buggy the lines are so busy you get a busy signal for 2024 it felt weird but also felt really satisfying to slam a phone for once 🤣. So we never even used the buggy and walked when we could.
6. The spa was world class. Out of this world amazing spa with amazing technicians. I had Kite and she was one of the best technicians I’ve had in this world. I had a signature treatment and I will never forget it because of how attentive and skilled she was. The surroundings of the spa were so beautiful. The spa is must do and this resort.
7. They upgraded some of the Toliet to Toto all in one and everyone was impressed. Our 2br did not.
Overall, the resort is beautiful and one of a kind.

We’ve stayed a couple of times at Banyan Tree Bintan, so was excited to be able to try their flagship resort in Phuket. Unfortunately, our experience here has been really bad. There was no acknowledgment of our Accor status whatsoever - no room upgrade (which is fine), but also no welcome drink vouchers, amenities, no explanation on their dining discount for Accor Plus - basically nothing. My biggest gripe however was not being provided with late checkout even though there were rooms in the same category still publicly available to be booked on the day (they claimed that the hotel was fully booked on a Monday, but they weren’t). I honestly don’t understand why they’re even part of the Accor program at this point.
Service was cold and impersonal throughout our stay. We requested for a buggy a couple of times and it either never came or took ages, so we ended up just biking around every day cause it was way more convenient. Communication about their restaurants and facilities was also poor i.e. closing time of Xana, the beach not being swimmable etc.
The only saving grace was the room, which looked recently refurbished and was comfortable. However, this couldn’t make up for bad service.
Maybe if you booked one of the higher-end villas you’d be treated better, but if you were considering one of the base-to-mid tier rooms, I would probably advise to stay away. If you have Accor status and are expecting to get the usual bells and whistles that you get at other Accor-affiliated hotels, you’re probably better off elsewhere too. There are plenty of other great resorts around Phuket that take much better care of their guests.

We stayed in a Grand 2 bedroom villa to celebrate our recent 10 year wedding anniversary with our 3 young children. We were a bit concerned the hotel might be a bit ‘honeymoon’ and that we’d stand out, and had discounted other similar resorts for that reason. We needn’t have worried. The resort was full of families and at no point did we feel uncomfortable. The space in the villas (which are admittedly quite dated but there’s clearly a renovation programme underway) the stunning, spacious grounds which the free bicycles you’re given make ample use of, the beautiful pools and large modern kids club make this a surprisingly family friendly resort. The team at the pool bar (Tiffy, O, Pang, Gem, Wut, Ton, Men, Poo and Ple) provided great service, remembering our room number and drinks orders from day 1, and were great with the children, happily making the milkshakes constantly needed throughout the day, and even going to the main kitchen to find some chocolate cake when our jet lagged 3 year old decided she ‘needed’ some. They are an asset to the hotel. Another asset is Brownie (hope I got her name right!) in the Spa. I booked a 2 hour treatment which turned into nearly 3 hours of complete bliss. By far the best spa treatment I’ve ever had and the spa surroundings are stunning. I’d read before we went that you can use the facilities of the other resorts at Laguna. This isn’t strictly accurate, as you need to purchase day passes to use any of the other pools. However the other resorts are so far below the Banyan in terms of ambiance and aesthetics I wouldn’t bother. One area that does to be looked at is beach access. Currently guests are sent to the Xana beach club at the Angsana hotel. This is next to a huge building site on a really ugly stretch of what is otherwise a lovely beach, and the Angsana is very run down in relation to the Banyan so it puzzles me that the hotel does this. There are plenty of independtly owned beach clubs/ restaurants in the tree line along Bang Tao and I really think the hotel should look at replicating this, to bring the hotels levels of service and ambiance to beach users. This is the main area that the hotel falls down in my opinion.
